Make sure you tighten the top bolt first.
The only thing I remember about the starter bolts was the 1/2 in size head for the 3/8 bolt.

The late model mini starter is a big improvement over the old style ones. Only downside is the hot cable is hot all the time like on a Chevy, but if it is ran correctly and fastened down it's no problem. You can get a starter and the complete harness at pull a part for a few bucks, look for a Tbird with the V6 or an Explorer with the 5.0 V8.

You said you have a new block plate, is it correct? A friend was having problems with a rebuilt C4 transmission, finally tracked it down to a aftermarket bellhousing that was cast off center. Just because something is new doesn't mean it is right....

Alright kidz!!! Got it figured out. It seems that the bendix gear is going in to far. Who would of thought that shit. Went to the local parts house and located a starter shim for a ford. I know I know..... You shouldn't have to shim a ford starter. Well in Gammz world nothing I repeat nothing is what it should be. Believe it. Shim installed new starter bolts and she fires with out the sound of sand going through it.
I have a feeling the block plate and flex plate are different in thickness. The shim I used was .100" thick.
So there ya have it. Another lesson learned in the world of hot rodding. Now for our next adventure.......

  5. Thanks for replying with the corrective fix. This could help a lot of others later when they try the search button for the same problem.

Your very welcome. I've ran into that before. Guy has this issue and by the end of the thread it seems to never have the soulition. Often times the thread is dead...... I'll try to always put the final fix after its all said and done.
And a thanks to you all who gave me ideas on where to start looking for problems!!!

    Good news
Now what I would do is get some studs (if you can get the starter in and out with them) and Loctite them in the bell housing then a lock washer and nut to hold the starter on.

Because you had problems with the starter braking and about to fall off it would make me concerned about the threads in the bell housing. Just saying.
