So I fired up the 52 today to drive her for a bit but when I started the car I could here the starter still turning. After about ten minutes of doin this I thought that the starter solenoid might be shot so I replaced it with a new one and I also replaced the ignition switch as well, but that has not changed a thing, Its still keeps turning over when the motor is on...ANYONE HELP?

You probably already checked this, but make sure the solenoid wire is attached to starter terminal on the ignition switch. Also check to see if there is a short between the start terminal and the ignition terminal on the ignition switch. I presume your solenoid is disengaging after you turn the key back to the run mode. If it isn't, check to make sure there is no bind between the bendix gear and the flywheel gear. You may need some shims to keep it from binding.

are you able to simply unhook the triger "s" terminal on the solenoid ? if you unhook that wire and it quits doing it somehow youve got voltage staying on when its not sposed to be. i would not run it no longer then i had to to find the problem. just a couple minutes at the most.

There is a short on the wiring that is letting current to continue to the starter . Trace the wire from there to you ignition . That would be my first places to start looking for the problem .

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP GUYS! Ill be back on it first thing in the morning to figure it out. Appreciate the help !

  6. disconnect the trip wire at the solenoid , grab a spare length of wire and connect one end to the solenoid at the terminal you pulled the trip wire off, turn the ignition to "on" and then touch the end of your "jump wire to the positive terminal on the battery - when the car starts stop holding the jump on the battery.

If the starter stays engaged then you have an issue at the starter (or possibly the solenoid). _ replace solenoid first, then starter if need be.

If the starter functions normally when jumping as described above you have a problem either at the ignition switch or there is a short in the wiring loom somewhere between the ignition switch and the solenoid.

    hope that helps ....
