Just a something to think about, if you are doing hot rods only you might want to put that in the name. If you plan on working on all cars your name will work perfectly. Good luck in you venture.
doing all cars, there is a lack of shops in the knoxville area willing to do old cars. i work on late models currently, and the shops out here where i live really cant do much diagnostic on late models. so im going for both old and new whatever it takes to pay the bills. i kicked around several names and asked for some help from friends and family. and decided to go with creek side auto because it leave me open for old and new.
Like the Creek Side but does not give any clue as to what you do. Sounds like a run of the mill garage. Maybe Creek Side automotive and speed shop or something like that. Give a little clue that you are not just a normal garage.
Good luck, Just liked your page.My daughter goes to UTK. I had to pay a shop about $300 to put in rad in her 99 civic since I laid down a motorcycle in Nov( I am doing better now). Will keep you in mind (if she needs any other repairs) and again good luck with your shop. Carl
thanks for the like's. im going to be as fair as i can on price. my current employer i think is costing us business because they dont live in the real world of everybody is broke. at my place i have basically no overhead. just a electric bill, the detached garage has its own meter.
Just a friendly word of caution. I do not live in TN, but most counties and states have zoning and licensing laws. Also a homeowner insurance policy does not cover this activity. You might check to see if a licensed business exists with the planned name, to avoid issues there. And you may want to get an IRS number for quarterly estimated income tax payments. While I know some people start out this way (backyard garage), I know one guy that got burned bad (financial & legal). Starting a small business is anything but simple and there is more risk involved than meets the eye. i live in the country on 10 acres no zoning laws, and business licences is 12 dollars. thanks for all the good lucks i need all i can get.
Good luck with the business. Sometimes it best to just do things for yourself. Its unfortunate that it is so difficult for the little guy to get a business off the ground without having to jump through a bunch of hoops.
