Customer from Maine arrived last week. Said "let's build a T-Bucket chassis". He helped 5 days. We got pretty much done. He did the lighting holes and the welding. I had the front axle, spindles. brakes and spring in stock. I built the FRANKLAND quickchange one day before he arrived. I used 36 housings and heavy wall 1940 front bones. He has a 1/2" SCAT stroker Flathead that I built last year. Other neat parts he has. SCHROEDER steering, THICKSUN 4 carb intake, 1937 PACKARD trans and a GENUINE 23 T body from California no less. Sharp eyes will see front spring hangers, rear Heims not double shear and lower gusset to reinforce the tube to 36 spring mount weld not finished. We used what I had on hand. The dropped tie rod ends work out well.
Todd [ owner from Maine ] and I put 4 days in the T chassis last week. First on the agenda was to adapt the Packard trans to the flathead using a Chevy to Packard adapter. I flame cut a 5" diameter x 5/8" thick ring. Machined it to locate the trans to the bell housing. Drilled some new holes in the bell housing. Fabricated lower rear shock mounts. Mounted the trusty old F 1 shock mounts in front. Fabricated 3 position lower shock mounts. Going to use 820D headlights. That is a smaller park light than the cookie cutter ones more readily available. PS; We need one more 820D. If only the park light or a pair. What ever you got. Fabricated an adjustable front spring perch. The front engine mount is magnesium plate.
Liking all of that, looking real good, neat an clean. Only thing I'd do def. except motor n tranny mounts having no rubber in them! I've always been fine with race cars having solid mounts, high maintenance ,just not a fan for street drivers. Long as things are looked at often, the extra vibs prob. can be looked after, though. Coming along great.
Back home in Vermont. Todd reports the engine location and body mounted worked out great. Sure wish I had pictures. He's working on a 36 roadster right now.
Glad you brought this back up so I can see it and learn a couple things. I pay attention. And you're a good one to pay attention to.
@Frames ... You got a minute to give me just a quick run down of Franklin vs Halibrand vs Winters? Or anybody else, too. Thank you.
