Hi there, this is my first post on the hamb :) My name is Mike and I'm from Southampton England, I have a 1959 Chevy pickup which I imported from south Carolina many moons ago. :)

My question is: The truck has been off the road for just over two years whilst I have been re-doing the frame and fitting air ride plus a couple of other jobs.

Its soon going to be time to re-start the 327 chevy motor. (which ran perfect prior to parking it up. Is there a list of suggestions or things I should do before I actually start it ? .. things like, remove plugs and spin the motor over to circulate the oil ... Any other bit I should do ?? (here's a pic of the truck) :)

  2. New oil and some oil in the cylinders and spin over by hand a few turns. Check over any rubber lines (fuel, vaccuum), new filter won't hurt.

  3. Just crank the old ***** up, after only a couple of years it should be fine. But as above a change of oil and filter would a good option as well.

Do what you said, but a few squirts of eng oil down the cyl's first and if the plugs are ok when you removed them, use again.I drain the fuel from the carb and fuel line and depending on how much is in the tank, pour a fuel additive incase it's gone stale and another 5gals of fuel.
You have very nice truck ! Treat it like a ''first date'' lol, Gaz!

  5. Change oil, oil filter and fuel filter. Drain carby float bowl and fuel tank and fill with fresh fuel. Disconnect coil lead and crank engine over on the starter until you get oil pressure before starting
