Working on Ford in line 6 cyl. with points distributor, the engine started and ran fine one day and wouldn't start the next. I checked the points and there was no spark when separating them, I used a test probe light and have current to the coil with the key in run position but none going to the distributor. I tried another coil with same results.. Is there anything else I should check before spending the money on a Pertronix system? Thanks.

use your testlight on the dist side of the coil while someone cranks it over. the light should flash. if it doesn't then file the points

I have seen times when the wire from the coil into the distributor fails as it p***es through the distributor case. The power from the coil never makes it to the points. Check to see if you have power getting to the points.
