ive got a 5.0, it ran fine about a month ago, ive been working on the rest of the car, now i go to start it and it will only stay running with the key in the starting postion, when i let the key off to the "on" position it dies. Whats up here? I havent touched the electrical system, but if i did and did not realize it, what could i have done?
I'm not that good with Ford, does that have a points dist. and ballast resistor? If it does it could be your ballast resistor.
looks like the coil or module is only getting the full 12v during starting. check your ballast resistor.. if you have one.. when the key is "on" power is usually fed to a resistor then on to the coil. the coil will be fed a full 12v when starting for easier starting.
Somehow you've got the ignition wire hooked up to the start connection, or if it has an ignition resistor and a byp*** wire for starting, the resistor is burnt out or disconnected. It's starting on the byp*** wire, then when you release the key back to "run", there's no spark.
Duraspark II? The module has a start wire and a run wire. I've seen modules fail and loose the run side but the start side is still good. I think the red wire is the run wire and the white one is the start wire or try a known good module.
