I'm about to start my 350 for the first time in a few years. I re-gasketed and cleaned the motor. The only internal change was a valve job by a very reputible engine builder. I bought a zinc additive to put in before I fire it. From my understanding once the cam and lifters have been burnished "broken in" I shouldnt have to perform any type of break in procedure. Does this apply to an engine that has been sitting or should I do something specail?
So its coated with ***embly lube on a new cam and lifters ??? or coated with "time" on the old stuff. Prime the oil pump until you have pressure and oil to the top end. Oil the cylinders and spin the engine several dozen times. Fire it up, and do a proper breakin procedure if its a new cam.
If you are using the same cam and lifters make sure the lifters go in the same hole they came out of. In other words they become 'lobe specific' when broken in. Solid advice from 31 Vickey in the post above .... good luck.
And... make sure the push rods are rockers stay as matched sets and go back into their designated lifters. I do this to ward off evil spirits.. I get a tad about AR about engine final ***embly. It may not be absolutely necessary, but I do it all the time. Liberally oil the lifter galley, valves, rockers before slapping on the intake, etc. You'll probably want to adjust the lifters once the initial break in is complete. Bob
I think I put the push rods back in the same spots they came out from but I can't remember. I'm gonna get out and find out an old dizzy to use to prime the motor! I had 2 but loaned them out and never got them back!
