  3. I'm a '32 guy and the 5W is my favorite Deuce, but I'd seriously consider the trade for the Willys (plus cash). However, I likely wouldn't return it to its as-raced state, but instead build it as a non-gasserized, non-pro-streeted, hot rod.

If you read all my post here in the HAMB then you know I vote Willys! A real all steel Willys Coupe is a very hard find, most are glass or half glass, the history makes it all the more sweeter. Only thing is, with the history of this Willys I would recommend restoring it as it was. The yellow paint and chrome reverse wheels are killer on that coupe. Value.........Willys by far is twice the money of a five window.

  5. Choose the car based on what you ultimately want to do with it. We all know people that have dump huge amounts of money into cars and end up selling them because they want something more drivable. Old nostalgic dragsters are bad ass, no doubt, and if you want to lump down the road a few times a year, hit up a few shows, and bench race in your garage with your buddies it's a good choice. If you want a car to drive 1000 miles a year, consider the 5 window. I think if you start from the end goal and work backwards you'll be much happier with your decision.

Trade!....trade!.....what are you waiting for? A Willys with race history? Deals like that don't happen everyday. The '32 is beautiful, but replaceable.....just my .02....

The Reggie Jackson Willys built by Brizio did not meet the reserve and was not sold at the Mecum Monterey auction. High bid was $130,000.

As the owner of a willys coupe with the firewall moved back to same place as the one you're looking at and still retaining the package tray, I can tell you it is very cramped in there. However when crossing the finish line in 10.5 sec. @ 125 mph it is barely noticeable.:)

Nope its a steel coupe with glass rear fenders and a glass nose. Again another half steel car.

As a person who loves both I would base it on if you have the money to build the Willys and do it right...we are talking about a running popular car vs. a project.

If you want the willys and are going to do it right get it, but you are giving up a 32.

My question, how nice is your five window body overall vs. the willys...I keep looking at the pics and the willy might be a bit on the rough side. It will probably be worth every penny it would bring because of what it is and anything can be fixed but how much are you going to need to do.

And once again, if you are not going full bore on it and doing it right leave it be...top shelf or nothing on one of those!

Man talk about Sophie's Choice !!! These 2 are my absoulute favorites !

The way I looked at it is what would I do in the same position. To me the the 5 window is done, the Willys needs a lot to be finished ... perhaps the automotive version of " A bird in the hand ..." ???

This steel 40 Willys at LARS 2010 was a roller. Fit is so-so. Needs alot to complete. 0 history. Primer hides alot.

    The asking price.

The 41 in your pics has racing history.
Your 32 5 window (and I like 32's!) won't bring that much money done.
I'd go for the Willys. The only history the 32 has is your history.

Tough choice but I know what I'd do.

I would trade for the Willys and restore it back to the way it was when it was raced.

You'll find 100 32's before you'll ever find another all steel Willys.... I;m not a gasser guy BUT, if it were me I'd trade just to have the chance to own a steel Willys ...

Your 32 looks great but a Willys with history is truly a rare find so go for it.

Tough choice, seen the Willys in person [might have seen the drool I left behind] I am in the majority, I vote Willys. He already has that choice 32 5 window stuffed in the corner, drooled on that one too. Helluva nice guy and builds a tough rear end. Either way you own or will own a dream car for a lot of folks here including ME:)
    Good luck, John

I like my 32 and I like the willys, every one talking about the price of the willys like this one your looking at was for sale for 60k and no one bought it, and the one for a asking of 75k I bet he still has it, so the willys ain't worth with they are asking for them. cars are only worth what some one will pay for them. You can ask 75k for you 32 and if no one buys it, it ain't worth the money, now if you trade it for a 75k car is it really worth 75k. the willys will take a lot of money so I'll go with what ever will make you happy. good luck

Wow! I cannot thank you guys enough for the time and thought that you have put into this thread. I would love to invite you all for a drink on me! I love that we all share the same addiction and passion for these cars and what they represent. Thank you so much! I will keep you posted. One thing I did not mention was when I was 14 my dad asked me what car do you want to build? I stated a 1941 Willys coupe. We could not find one back in 1984 that we could afford, so I settled for a 1940 Ford pickup that I still have today. Thank you to you guys and your opinions and passion; I respect all of them! Mike

Some new information here - you have a 1940 Ford pickup, so presumably that's something you can drive - I'd trade the '32 for the Willys in that case but expect to put a significant amount of sweat equity and money into it.

Believe me when I say that Troy Thompson at Roland's Rod Shop is the Willys guy's friend, along with Mike Nordahl at Willys Replacement Parts. You can build a complete car from these two guys and Troy has actually built an all steel Willys coupe from scratch - check it out at www.rolandsrodshop.com

  30. Trade for the Willys Coupe. If you've wanted to build a Willys Coupe since you were fourteen then this is your chance to fulfill that life long dream of owning a building a Willys Coupe. I doubt you're ever going to find a better car to start with then that one, plus you already know the history of car which is an added bonus.
