Did a search for this but came up with nothing. Does anyone have any info or link to a post on making a model A header panel out of steel rather than wood. Thanks!
I do it all the time, what type of car? Model a's are simple, body by Fisher a little more difficult. Info please
What year? The early and late are rather different. It's actually easier to do the steel route on a 29 than a 31. The eyebrow on a 29 has a top and bottom edge, where the 31 doesn't. You just hold the tin skin up where it needs to be, and see what is missing to support it. You will probably need to have some angle bent to attach edges that used to nail into wood, but it's all basic fabrication. Use lots of trial and not so much error, and you should be fine.
There was a thread on here about a month ago where the poster showed some neice pictures of a steel header he made with welded on studs to support the windshield frame. I can not seem to find it but there are probably more steel headers than wood ones out there even though I am partial to the wood. The wood is a real pain to change and get it right.
The September 9, 2008 has a couple of great pictures. My question is does the header trim piece attach to the steel header (with the rearview mirror} anywhere but with the two small tabs on either end. Is it only attached to the wooden header? I bought a trim piece on ebay and don't have the wooden header as I want to build it out of steel. My car is a 29 A tudor sedan.
