So I’m just a hobbyist hotrod builder with half dozen plus builds under my belt and a full time trim carpenter. So a guy I’ve done a shitload of carpentry work for has bugged me for years to build him a hotrod. I’ve always said no because I don’t want to make it a job. I enjoy coming home and decompressing down at my shop building my own hot rods and I don’t want to make it a job but today he tells me he has his granddads 46 Chevy pickup. I went and looked at it and holy shit it’s a beautiful patina truck with hardly any body damage. I told him I might be interested in building him a patina hotrod. I don’t want to get into bodywork and paint but I would build a full chassis and a nice interior and leave the patina. Anyway I’ve Always been a Ford guy and don’t know suppliers for 41-48 Chevy pickups. I want to make a list of big ticket items to give this guy a rough estimate on just the parts it would take to get it on the road.

Hello, Old Chevy parts? The neighborhood of the "surf ghetto" in South Orange County must be the location of the shop that has tons of parts. It is called Classy Chevy. These cars are usually seen outside on the main drag from the freeway to the ocean. It is a great way to advertise the business. (nice looking trucks as part of the business.) No, I do not work for Classy Chevy. I had several questions about Chevy trucks. The shop owner helped me identify some old Chevy parts, how they worked on the truck and gave me some ideas on old Chevy Trucks in the USA. This yellow/white 1942 Chevy pick up truck looks like a custom truck, but there are clues that it is a shop truck, carrying packages and boxes of parts to be shipped across the USA. It is a work truck for light weight parts and boxes. For the heavy stuff, the friend behind the 42 custom yellow truck, looks like it could carry a lot more, large and bulky car parts for delivery everywhere. The stake bed helps for larger items. A 38 Chevy stake bed truck? Jnaki This whole area is the old industrial area of the city that goes back historically, many years... (with Rainbow Sandals being the most popular industrial building known to most people. ) The newest industrial area is just a few miles up the street, on the other side of the freeway. The Chevy trucks parked outside are always a draw to this industrial area. I recently talked to the owner about one of his Chevy trucks that I saw parked outside. He was very cordial, knowledgeable and was willing to answer any questions I had. He did not know me from anyone else… I was just an inquisitive customer. Art Deco Chevrolet 1941-1947. In my opinion the most beautiful truck of all time. They are great. Why does it need a new chassis? Interior????? All they had was a seat and a shifter. Make it roll. Make it stop Make it go. Make it light.
I didn’t say it was getting a new chassis. But I will be adding new suspension and trans crossmember. As far as the interior the guy that wants this truck built wants a nice interior.
I've used Chevys of the 40's plus these guys Jim Carter https://oldchevytrucks.com/ Classic Parts https://classicparts.com/chevy-gmc/chevy-gmc-truck-parts/1934-1946-truck-parts
I'm just going list vendors I have actually done business with. Classic parts https://classicparts.com/has a Decco specific section. They are great for small parts that will fit in a USPS priority mail box as everything that will fit in a certain size box ships for the exact cost that the post office shows for that box no nonsense of added costs. I've got a bunch of small pieces coming for my 48 from them now. If you are keeping their stock rear springs but swapping to open drive their kit for the installation is a tad on the spendy side now but saves a lot of hours of how the hell do I make this work time in the process. https://classicparts.com/chevy-gmc/...xle-conversion-kit#product.detail.description Still checking parts houses U bolts run about 30 bucks a pair now so that price got a bit more realistic. I like the Filling Station in Oregon to check and see if a part exists in the aftermarket as they list just about everything. Sometimes a rather vague description and a bit of scrolling works better than an exact description. https://www.fillingstation.com/ If you are in a hurry I would call and check to make sure that they actually have the part on the shelf and don't have to order it in. I bought a park light for my 77 1 ton from them and waited close to a month for it before it showed up but it was a nice one when I got it. I figured that they ordered it in with a stock order. I wouldn't call that a fast moving item though. https://www.fillingstation.com/ Chevs of the 40's is another go to for me and not and unreasonable 171 mile road trip in good weather from my driveway if I want big items and I may fill the back of the HHR up on a road trip in a couple of months. https://www.chevsofthe40s.com/ I have bought a few things from Jim Carter over the years. I've also bought a few things from LMC but their website isn't as easy for me to find what I want as it used to be.
Lmc is still in buisiness. Chev's of the 40's will buy certain core parts. Gives you a credit to buy their stuff.
