    Here's the setup:

Model A front suspension with Tardel reverse-eye leaf in spring pack, 32 Ford axle, 48 spindles. The combo of the 32 axle and the reverse-eye spring should give us a 3- to 4-inch drop. We're going with a cross-steering setup.

    Here's my question:

Should I use Ford Flat Plate Steering Arms, 1937-48 Ford steering arms with 1-3/4" drop, or 1937-48 Ford steering arms with 3-3/4" drop? (all Speedway stuff)

    Thanks in advance!

if you have 48 ford spindles you already have the arms, they just need to be bent to fit.

No steering arms on the spindles.

What you use for steering is your choice depending on what clearances you have to work with. No one can advise you realistically without being there and seeing what you're working with.

If its a wish bone set up you'll need the deep drop one's to go under, a hairpin or 4-bar you shoud be ok with the short drop

You can run the tie rod above the wishbones as well (I did).....get forged arms, cause you can heat and bend 'em if neccessary.....
I personally wouldn't use the flat arms, just don't look good....

We're splitting the wishbones, so it sounds like the deep drop is the way to go.

I know the choice depends on a lot of factors, but I wanted to get some opinions first.

Did this exact same deal on an A a short time ago, with the deep drops, everything fell nicely into place.

  9. You can also go about the wishbone if you have frame-to-tierod clearance....even with split bones.

If you go below the wishbone by using dropped steering arms, make sure your tierod is NOT below the scrub line. It should sit higher than the axle.

I have seen a lot of experienced builders run the steering tube through the wishbone by cutting a slot into it. Looks pretty cool but I am not sure how much integrity it takes out of the wishbone
