Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by buickwagon, Mar 15, 2014.

  1. Hi guys, brand new FED project, just getting up to steering stage - what is everyone using for dragster steering boxes nowdays ? Have searched evilbay with no joy, what brand should I be searching for ? What brands have been around , I know of spe, williams, currie but what others ? Does anyone have one they want to sell or should I jus use a p***enger car steering box ? If so, what type ? I am in australia so its not quite so easy to access info sometimes down here........can anyone help ?

Currently Strange, Flaming River and Stiletto have new dragster/funny car boxes available. The Strange and Flaming River units are pretty much the same as the old SPE and P & S units ( which are no longer available) and the Stiletto is a different design, a bit bulkier but very smooth operating. If you can find an old Standard Cadet or Austin A30 unit that is what we used back in the 60's.

In mid '60s I used a aluminum reversed Corvair.

Ross is a good box ... small, simple, but not so easy to find these days. I think they were used in early Jeeps, and if anyone has one, I'd be interested myself.

How soon are you trying to get one?

I know we all get the bug for "right NOW" but they do go on fleabay from time to time. I got my p&s for like $150 on there a couple of years ago.
