OK, so I found a pretty good deal on a 55-56 chevy steering box and column, I was just wondering if anyone knows whether or not it needs to be reversed to be used for cowl steering? I would go check it out, but of course its hlaf way across the country...

    thanks for the help!

Yes, it needs to be reversed. I've done several of them, but my version is "enhanced". I saw all the mounts off the case then put it in the lathe and turn the pitman shaft housing so it's smooth and round. The gear then looks a bit "racier". I also replace the big threaded plug (the one that adjusts bearing load on the steering/worm shaft) with a special aluminum piece that adds support to the shaft and provides a surface to mount a mast jacket to. To hang it in the car, I make mount that looks like the big end of a con rod that clamps around the (now round) pitman shaft housing.
