Steering Box Question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rex1927, Apr 22, 2009.

  1. HI,I know you probably get tired of this question, but here goes.In the past I have always built fenderless cars using reversed corvair box which sat on frame with arm down and they worked great.
My current project will have fenders.*I want to Run Side Steering with a Used Manual Steering Box Under Frame With Pitman Arm Up* .I have heard that a 1968-69 mustang box is the only one that will work, but there must be other boxes ,pickups, etc?.What are other boxes that will work?I have searched the site and still I am not sure of my options.thanks

Mustang 64 up to?? Falcon same era. 37-48 Ford car P/U to 47 ,same deal rotate 90* and there you are. The old Ford has the same type internals as a 'Stang [worm&roller] and is a fair amount smaller.

  3. HI,Thanks for the information. I just put it down on paper so I won`t forget. Is that all the boxes that will work?Anyone know of any more boxes that will work? thanks

I'm running a corvair mounted upside down, with the arm pointed up. Mounted under the frame.

  5. A lot of people used to use '60s Ford Econoline van or Dodge A-100 van boxes. I just gave a guy a Dodge A-100 box that is going on his '21 Studebaker roadster. He was glad to get it as it looks like it will solve his problem; I was glad to get it out of my way because I had stubbed my toe on it one time too many in my little crowded garage.
