Apparently there are some differences in the manual and power steering setups on my 63 1/2 Ford Galaxie. I have the power setup, but a previous owner trash canned the pump and connected the hoses to each other on the tie rod ram. It is not parking friendly!!!! What do I need to do? Change out the box, or something else?????
What engine do you have in your '63? Ford used the same power steering pump for many years, so the pump is not hard to find. I used to have a '78 Granada that had the ram-type power steering, if I remember right it had the same PS pump that Ford had used forever, same one that was on the '67 Galaxie my parents had. It shouldn't be terribly hard to find the brackets and belts to put it on your engine (most likely the previous owner would have left the pulleys unchanged when he took the power steering pump off. If you're lucky, he may have left the brackets. Any place that makes hydraulic hoses can make the hoses for you.
Yes find a manual steering box. If it were me I would just replace the pump. Stock is available rebuilt (maybe new) and they are not expensive at all.
