my '57 ford is coming back together, but theres one thing still missing. the steering bump stops are gone, i dont know what they look like or where to get them. if anyone has any advice feel free to help ive done lots of googling and read in the manual, to no avail.
Would these be what you are looking for. https://midfifty.com/item.php?INV_ID=19405&PN=Steering-bump-stop-53-56-original-both-sides-with-taps
Do you mean the part that keeps it from steering too far to one side or the other? or the suspension bump stops, that limit how far up or down it goes?
that's the suspension bump stop. Are you sure there is a steering bump stop? I've only seen them on solid axle suspension.
thank you! and thank you for telling me those are the original style. i think i'll go for the ones youre using as speedways shipping is cheaper
Remove the word "bump" from your search terms, they are just called steering stops. This may be why you keep finding the ones that limit suspension travel.
I'm way more familiar with the early '60s full size Fords but, they use a piece that is welded to the lower control arm that contacts the steering arm at full travel. As I say, I'm more familiar with the early '60s stuff but the steering and front suspension was very similar from '57 thru '64.
If it's just a steering stop, the part shown above looks like something you could get from a hardware store (screw-in door stop or similar).
Just about everyone sells them, look on eBay, you may find a free shipper. Do a search under the Ford number. Maybe even Amazon as much as I don't care for them myself.
