Howdy all Tim here. Well I think we are going to add the column drop soon... I am using a stock 1940 Ford Truck column. I would like to use the stock drop for it. I know that I will need to slide the locking collar up a bit. Its on there good and will probably take a torch to break it loose. I have been thinking of the what the best way to locat the actual drop would be? Should be pull the dash out first and then put the drop on the column itself....then cut the dash a bit to fit? Any thoughts?

Hey Tim, what are you working on and what dash? I have one in my truck with a 32 dash.. Had too slot out the holes a bit on the dash and it lined right up.. Also it matters how big you belly is [IMG].. Big wheels at a low angle column drop = tight quarters.
    thanks continentaljohn

I am using the 26 Model T dash....I don't have a belly problem just yet...I just don't know if I should try to eyeball it and cut the dash while its in the car or pull the dash and put the drop on then wittle away at the dash until it will fit....I am leaning towards the latter idea. I just figured I'd ask what others had done before.

If the locking drop is only a small distance too far down, it could mount to a simple bracket extending back from the bolt pad on the dash. Too far wouldn't look good.
On moving the sleeve on the steering shaft: Try putting the shaft against something solid like an anvil, then whack the screws with an impact driver and big hammer. If you have to drill, it's pretty easy as the threads are I think in the sleeve, not the shaft. Once you have the center drilled out, you can take it off the shaft and have better access. The sleeve itself is pretty soft steel--you can put a big screwdriver into the axial slot and spread it a bit for removal.

I have gotten the screw out of the locking sleve already...It just won't slide up. I will need to move it up a bit because of the angle of the shaft. It would put it behind the dash...and very awkward.
