For my 63 Chevy Panel project: I was hoping to use the steering column out of an 85 Chevy parts truck I recently bought. I am also going to use the steering gear/pump, etc. It seems like it ought to work except on the 85, the gear indicator is in the instrument panel. Won't work for the panel. Has anybody converted this type of column so that the indicator is on the column? I assume there is probably a digital indicator solution available, but I was hoping to stay analog - and similar to the original. Thanks in advance
Probably not what you are looking for; but the Speedway indicator that you put on the column itself serves the purpose.
If you can find a column from a mid 60s chevy car, it will take some work to get it in and functioning, but it would look "right". They had a neat chrome surround and a plastic lens, the pointer is built into the shift collar. you can get inserts for different shift patterns, most the originals were for powerglides.
I plan to install a column from a 67-72 73-79 Ford truck in my 64 F100. No key switch and shift indicator.
Got a column from a 75 GM van in my 50 Chevy. Tilt, column shift with illuminated column shift indicator. The indicator and pointers are still available. Special pointer has to move with the tilt action.
