I bought this column off eBay a few years back for my 63 Nova project. I finally am getting around to getting at it and have found the cover has got damaged. I need to replace it of straighten it out. The problem is I’m not sure what the column is out of. I went back and looked at the email from the seller and see he wasn’t sure what it was out of either. It is a tilt, floor shift column that was the correct length for my needs. It also didn’t have the key on the column. It is a collapsible column as the tube looks to be that type. I’ll answer any questions anyone may have to the best of my ability. I’m really hopeful one of you out there can help. :)

Anyone? Also the top cover that is damaged is not potmetal like the 69 + columns - it tin with a rolled top lip - hope someone has some ideas.

    Thanks

  3. I have a column from a 67 Camaro that looks just like that. It's apart but if all you need is the top collar I may be able to help. If I remember correctly 67 & older had that type of half rounded connector for the turn signal switch. 68 they switched to a flat connector. After re-reading your post I see you have a tilt column. I'm pretty sure that top collar is different than a non tilt which is what I have.

Thanks for the info. If you want measurements to see if it's the same I send them in a PM. Let me know.

  7. I say 1968, because it has hazard flashers. Though GM might have had haz in '67. But its one or t' other.

if the metal part you need is 2-7/8" deep, it's probably a truck column from around 1970. could also be 68 car. Cars went to column ign switch in 69, trucks in 73, vans even later.

then again...truck/van columns don't have the collapsing thing like that.

I wonder if it's an off brand? GM saginaw division sold parts to different manufacturers

Thanks for the input - the only markings I see on it are the number 287 7 on the top collar that has the damage at the bottom lip if that helps anyone. Does anyone know if that type of collar , if that is the correct name, is available through any vendor?

  10. AMC used GM Saginaw columns for a bunch of years. Used to have a '72 AMC Hornet wagon that had a column that looked a lot like that.
