I got a 28 inch steering column and was wondering if I could use it in my 37 plymouth coupe the one that was in it was kinda home made and didnt want it because of safety worries. Its almost 30 Inches. Just was wondering because I have it laying around

A tape measure is your friend. The key measurement is, when the column is through the floor enough to put a u-joint on it, does it extend far enough upward to be comfortable to drive with your steering wheel of choice in place.

However, steering columns are not hard to come by, so if the one you have lying around isn't long enough, get another. Your stated goal of 'being safe' is the main thing to keep in mind, even if you have to get other parts to do it.

  3. the dish of the steering wheel you plan on using will affect the length of your column

Mock it up with a broomstick and take the measurements you need, rather than trying
to make the 28" one fit (which it may).
