I am building a (g***er) style 55 ford customline and putting a econoline front axle underit. I am going to go with cross-steer. i was wonder what others have done for the steering arms. i dont see any listed with the 2.5' bolt spacing for the factory spindle.
had an army buddy who was going to do that with a falcon when he got out. i suggested an econoline axle, but he said it was too wide...
I had an Econline axle I was going to use in my Henry J project, but after looking around I couldn't find a brake upgrade for it. Decided it wasn't ideal for a true race car that should have been capable of 130+ in the 1/4 mile. Later sold off everything but the motor. Devin
I made mine from scratch out of 3/8" steel plate. You'll have to make up patterns and figure out the Akerman of the steering. If you have not been down this path before it can be very stressful.
If you are going with cross steer, get one of those tie rod ends with the extra hole for the right side of the tie rod.
My 62 fairlane was built in 64 and raced up to the early 70s . It has a stock Econoline axle with stock steering maid to fit a galaxie column and steering gear it's all 64 engineering and work it drives straight and doesn't wander it doesn't stop on a dime though. Sorry no pics of the steering as it's put to bed for the winter
I take it that you made the bottom arms as well as the top one. Have you got a picture of one of them as I think this might be useful to the guy that posted that started the thread.
The Willys in my avatar has an Econoline axle that was narrowed and arc welded. I have put over 87,000 miles on it. I used modified dirt track rear caliper brackets for GM metric brakes on this axle. Found the info on a van site.
