We're trying to get the steering right on a 29 A w/SBF. We used an iditit column , Borgeson joints and carrier bearing. There's a single joint at the rack then the carrier then a double u-joint at the bottom of the column shaft next to the carrier bearing. The setup looks just like the picture in the Borgeson catalog.

With the car on jacks the whole thing turns smooth but when the car is on the ground the double joint just wants to wrap up and looks like it would come undone. Borgeson tech says we have too long of a shaft from the column to the double joint ( about 12" or so) and we need to add another carrier bearing. Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be wrong? We really need some help on this. Thanks

the tech is probably right. you need a carrier or brace for each free section of column. the collapsable portion allows the slack for it to bind itself, path of least resistance and all.
