One other thing you need to know is it will take a football field to turn that thing around in. Street Rodder mag did an article in the late 70's early 80's on installing a rack to a straight axle. Can't remember issue, could have been Rod Action. You must mount the rack to the axle. Reasons: The rack must travel in the same plane as the axle or you get too much deflection on your tie rod ends. Also if the rack is not mounted to the axle the vehicle will not steer properly. I have seen this setup and it does work but the big problem is maintaining correct Ackerman and the low number of turns lock to lock will drive you crazy trying to do a u turn. But if you want it to steer correctly it MUST be mounted to the axle!
