Steering upgrade in 1940 Cadillac

I have a 1940 Cadillac 6227 coupe that I am wanting to improve the steering. Does anyone have suggestions on a steering box and column changeover for this vehicle? I was hoping for an easy steering column upgrade to get a GM wiring harness set-up for an automatic ******. The steering box I have is original Cadillac and may work fine for now. Any helpful ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Please note the engine is a Cad 472 with TH400 transmission. Not a lot of room in there!
