Some one educate me on F1 boxes. Speedway sells an adapter that fits ford 32-48 that is tapered and keyed. I was researching the Grant adapters and saw they had one that fit 49-57 F series that is splined and another that fits 40-41 and 46-48 ford delux and 48 F series. This one is also keyed. I found another site that said splines were used on 39 and up trucks. My question is were there different splines on the earlier ones than the later ones or are they all the same . I'm not sre which adapter I need for my box. I was told it was a 48 F1 box but now I'm thinking it could be later. Mine has 39 splines with a 1/8 inch space on one side only. If they are splined from 39 and up , I'm confused on why the adapter for the Ford Delux and the 48 F series is tapered and keyed. Can anyone shed any light on this. I'm just trying to get a basic adapter for a 3 holed metalflake wheel on my F1 box.
I am in the same predicament but I want to mount a 40 Ford wheel on a 49-51 F1 box. Ive been told just to cut off the splines and weld on a tapered keyway from an earlier box. But an adaptor would seem X-cellent.
don't know what my 56 box came with stock, as whoever removed it from the truck torched it three inches fromthe box. I just put on a shaft that fit the keyed wheel I wanted to run. easy, peasy lemon squeasy
I think you'll find that the Speedway "adapter" is actually a short shaft with the tapered end that will need to be welded to the F-1 shaft after it is shortened the correct amount to get the wheel in the right location. You can see my weld about 4" below the steering lock sleeve on this F 100 box. I wanted the steering lock feature on the original Ford column so I grafted on a much longer Ford shaft. You can make your own 'adapter' like I did if you can locate any old worn out lunched Ford donor box.
Tommy, getting another short shaft to weld on would be a alternative to fit this speedway adapter. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/330...ng-Wheel-Adapter.html?itemNo=STEERING+ADAPTER Getting an adapter that will fit my splined one would be easier. Grant makes adapters for the splined shafts. I'm just trying to figure out what year box I have. Summit sells all the adapters but like I said one says for 48 f series and is keyed. I was looking on the MACs website and read that 37-52 truck boxes are splined. Wondering why they did'nt say to 57. Is there an early spline and late spline? Just trying to clear up whick one I need.
I'm sorry I misread your post. I thought you wanted to go from spline to taper. All you need is a Grant adapter like this one. I've never known of more than one 50s Ford spline.
Yeah the grant ones are the ones I'n looking at. I assumed all the splines were the same also but there seems to be different adapters for different years in there listings. I 'm just tyring to avoid having another one that does'nt fit. Also just trying to find out if 48 boxes do differ from 49. I was told it was 48 but I'm thinking not now.
