Just about have the 26 Tudor ready for the road.....yahoo
The steering wheel that came with it, well let's just say its***** ugly to me and really doesnt go. Its 14" and all wood. Have not done any steering wheel swaps in the past so looking for your wisdom and advice.
What style do you think would go and adaptors? Help an old dummy out...
    Thanks

looks like it probably has a normal 3 bolt adapter under that rounded piece, below the rubber bellows. So you could use a normal old aftermarket steering wheel like a 3 spoke Superior 500 or something.

If you take the existing wheel off, then you can see what you have to work with, eh?

That wheel is uglier than my*****.
How about one of these "traditional" wheels:

LOL..... Would have to wear oven mitts in the south texas sun and heat to use that one.
Makes me think of cheech and chong

  6. Bell wheels are pretty timeless.

Whatever wheel you use I would have a nice leather cover made to replace those fugly rubber bellows.

It's got two stacks of those wheel extenders with the rubber ribbed for her pleasure covers. Yikes!

I'd definitely be finding a new solution, not only because that wheel is oooog-leee but for safety's sake.

If you don't have a favorite style pick an era and do some detective work on what was cool that year. Find a JC Whitney from those years and see what was hip.

  8. Oh! thats an extension!!! Still fugly. Proper dished wheel may get it in a good position w/o using it.

Two extensions bolted together, then bolted to the adapter and then the steering wheel. Not just ugly, but likely dangerous...

Way too much happening there for my taste...

to me it looks like you have a 1968 camaro style column
on top of the column is a grant style upside down bowl
under that is probably a 3 bolt grant adaptor.
what you probably have is a chevy spline, which is great,

    history lesson
in 1968 the ford mustang went from a nice deep 3 spoke wheel to a foam padded horrible style wheel
maybe it was some kind of federal law that coinsided with the introduction of collapseable steering columns
so prior to 67 steering wheels were generally of a deeper 'bell' than post 1968
also worth noting is the turn signal switch changer in 68 up on gm columns
for arguments sake look at a 67 mustang wheel and a 68
then look at a gm offering from 66 then 69
no one back in the day wanted to run stock steering wheels, but they do now
or - go and have a look at the price of a stock chevy 2 steering wheel $$$$$
you couldnt give them away i bet in 1985
so a 64 to 67 gm wheel - the distance from the hub to the ring of the wheel is nuch deeper than post 68

it is difficult to see when you are looking at pictures head on.
    plus
all stock steering wheels are quite large in diameter

find a stock corvette c2 hub
    aftermarket c2 smaller wheel
    corvette horn push

looks similar to a nardi wheel and may have the distance you need which might be the discerning factor

    I agree 100 %

I pulled the center of the wheel off. Looks like if I remove the 2nd spacer (and throw it away), a standard 3 bolt wheel will work.
I'll measure the dish and get the proper wheel on it.
Thanks everyone for your help and advice.
I'll get the spacers off there

Speedway has a 15" wheel like that. Like the looks. Might just have to get it

the one thing that will get you is that the top part of the styeering column is in the usa called a upper column collar

they are not all the same diameter.
the size changes in diameter with the change of the turn signal switch

    its basically 57 chevy
    68 camaro
    85 camaro

57 chevy its just a turn signal - hi low and hazard switch on dash
68 camaro incorporates the hazard switch i think hi lo on floor still
68 up the hi low is in the collar with the hazard and turn signal switch

    erm - something like that
just worth noting if you go for a stock wheel

look at the depth of a c2 steering wheel adaptor
and the dish or 'bell' of the wheel
it all kind of adds up to the 60's deep dish
will put the wheel plane where yours is now.
    buy a c2 corvette wheel.
IF you put a 40's style wheel on that column it will be too far forwards
anything flat will not suit the steering column
a c2 vette wheel will look the best.

the aftermarket curved spoke banjo 1939 ford style made by some dude - i forget who, is the nicest wheel on the planet, and will be the correct diateter at the mounting as your column as i have one on a non tilt 68 camaro upper collar, but I swedged the tube down to 1.5'' to go into a stock column drop. plus i think i had to mill in some snap washers either side of the collar bearing, i forget now.

You may be able to sell that wheel to a guy building a rat rod trophy. Damn.

One good thing about it is that after you do the swap you can set this one on fire. :)

Good enough, Now all you have to do is figure out how deep a dished wheel you need and what diameter you want and start looking for what YOU want.
Then haul that wooden piece of ugly to the next swapmeet and put a price on it and the first guys who lowballs you owns it. That shows a real bad case of "It's a Model T I gotta have a wood wheel" going on.
