I'm in the market for a steering wheel as well as a column, I'm thinking on going with a 13" over a 15" for more room. anybody with a Model A coupe what size are you using and would you change it if you could. thanx :)

In my opinion a 13" wheel is just gonna look too small. I would go at least 15". I have a '40 Ford wheel (17") in my A and it's not a problem at all. My column hung a little low when I got the car, but after shortening the column drop it is perfect. I wouldn't change a thing.

I've got a 15" red metalflake steering wheel in my '31 Ford coupe. It fits me just fine, but then, I'm 5'8" and 150 lbs. A bigger guy might prefer a 13" for more room.

I think if you need more room, try slimming the seat back down, or lifting steering column up. A 13" wheel is meant for a toyota.. Visually way too small ,even if you have power steer. If no power then it will be heavier to turn.

I'd go with the bigger wheel for ease of steering. You never said what steering box it will be connected to but a 13" wheel may be very difficult to steer, especially parking or turning around without power steering. It's easier to go down in size than it is to go up later.

The problem I have with the stock steering wheel I have in my truck is it seems to expand a little every year. I notice the growth every year when I get the trucks out of storage. It's just strange.

I used to be 5'6" but now Im shrinking as I age, not over weight, 155-160 ish
I thought with the small tight quarters of an A the smaller wheel would fit better. will have a vega non power box.

  9. i'm running a vega style box,,manual...and i have a 12" metal flake wheel in Lil Beast....haven;t driven it yet, but i can stand outside the door and turn the wheels with my index finger....thats with a 325 hemi and a 5 speed in the topolino....

  10. I'm dragging thru the corners with a 15" banjo wheel in my A sedan.
It's a tiny car inside and I would go down to a 14" wheel next time it's on the sretcher for changes.

I used A Speedway 15" flat alluminum sprint car style wheel. Granted I don't have a Model A, but it gave me more clearance. I have the factory bench seat but no adjustment.

I have a 12" in my 34 pickup for more room to the side. It steers beautifully and doesn't look out of place at all
