I dont post on the HAMB as often as i should or could because I can usually find what I am looking for and figure it out from there. Unfortunately though I only have today off this week and wanted to figure something out today. Here is my issue. I found a (late 40's?) Ford Steering wheel on Craigslist (probably my first mistake) It actually found me but thats besides the point.... It is going to need a complete restoration if I am going to use it, But I want to know if I can even use it....Im pretty sure it went to a car and I am putting it on a 52 F1. Here it is..... here is where I think the issue is...(by the way, this is my first time dealing with a steering wheel....) Its smooth, I can tighten it down as tight as I want but it is still going to slide around. My question is, Is there something I can do here or do I just throw it back out on craigslist? here is the steering column. Any help will be greatly appreciated..
That's a 46-48 Ford Wheel with a 50 Horn ring. It's meant to fit on a tapered shaft with a locating key. Can't think of an easy way to do it. Probably would have to find the center part of the 52 wheel and machine it out and graft it into the early wheel.
that looks like a `49 ford steering wheel to me. if it is , there should be splines. is it a taper instead? or are the splines all worn out? you could adapt the taper part of the center shaft from an earlier ford column/shaft to yours
