  2. I would think that most people that make their steering wheels roll their own hoop. HRP

What HRP said otherwise pick up a cracked swap meet wheel for a few bucks and remove the plastic. Forming your own hoop is probably easier. Low buck method is to heat the rod and form around a plywood disc of the diameter you want.

I don't have the ability to roll a hoop. I am looking for some one who can make me a hoop.

Hit the swap meets. A company called "Superior" marketed inexpensive steering wheels back in the `60's and `70's. They mostly made 11" and 13" wheels, but did produce a few 15" models. That's what I used to cut down my `39 banjo.

Find a local tubing fabricator. There's plenty around who will roll mild steel tubing. Chrome-Moly is usually harder to come by, but a good company that deals with aircraft will be able to do it.

Why does everyone forget to check their yellow-pages?

Any metal shop that has a slip roller can roll you a hoop. Most slip rollers have one or more grooves on the open end that a piece of steel rod can be put in and rolled.

Some may not know how but the welding/metal shop teacher that I taught with 24 years ago only used the big surplus slip roller in the welding shop to roll hoops for different things. He taught a lot of guys who ended up as top rate welders but didn't know the equipment he had in the shop very well.

Find a Blacksmith or Metal Fab Shop with a ring roller. They can spin one out for you and weld up the ends. This will work if you are going to laminate the steel ring (core) with fiberglass then sand it for finish. Have Fun !!! Jeff

I stoped by the shop discussed what I needed left phone numbers was told they would call. For a business they need to know that all a customer wants to do is give them money!! A customer only can go so far.
