like everything on our cars the steering is a beast within its self.not much in the aftermarket for bolt on power steering.i installed the cavalier power rack .it steers great but i lost some turning radius ,has anyone else run into this prob?

I have heard that it is a problem with the rack conversion. A number of guys have said they would never have done it if they knew about it.

Hello ! My orginal steering box is in very bad condition. Now I have to consider what kind of steering system works best. I have sb chevy with headers and TH2004R.
From 1957 Ford forum I found a link to this company http://abspowerbrake.com. They do a power steering kit for 49-72 Fords.
Has anyone used their product ?

Personally....I'd be content with just an aftermarket non-power box that didn't require a ton of modifications.

Jamco supplies a volvo conversion kit that is supposed to work very well. When my box is total **** I will look into this conversion. Any one else here know of this kit?

Check out the power steering box from a '99-'04 Jeep Grand Cherokee, its dimensions are very similar to the stock '55-'56 box. Its not a bolt-in but with a little fab work it should work well. Search "GM powering steering 1956 Fairlane" on the main board for more info and pics.

  12. Hey all, I fitted a power steer box from a late '70s / early 80s falcon into my wifes ranchwagon ( pics in album) her car is rhd but in theory a mustang from 67ish to 72 ish should be pretty much the lhd equivalent? worth checking?

Not sure, but I think that's a Fatman Fabrications item. Good luck! Let us know how it works out, okay?

Answer of Fatman about the Volvo Steering

"That setup will not work in any vehicle other than the ’49-’51 Ford."

Check out Ebay item number 150391615706, It looks like these guys are making a mounting plate to bolt the Jeep Grand Cherokee box in '52-'56 Fords.

Has anyone found a way to change the manual steering box on a 55 Ford ? Mine is ****py and hard to steer . When I adjust to get the play out of the steering , when I turn all the way left or right is gets stuck . Any help or suggestions will help . I do have a complete 57 Fairlane steering box and column .
Is there anyone that has used a rack on their 55 ? What did you use and how bad were the modifications ?

I check with the Ebay seller (Item number above) and he will not sell the mounting plate without the power steering box. Looks like it should be easy enough to make.
