I built a set for my 40 pickemup truck about 20 years ago that were more 50's race car inspired.
But one of my favorites recent is the one Sam Straub (sp?) showed on his Too Tall Spaulding Bros build for the 40 pickup
    I grab a shot in a second

25 years ago I used the chrome 1/2" steel ovals that dirt bike tires rode in being carried by a vehicle
as nerfs on a purple '34 fiver... swap meet cheap in the 80's and 90's ...

Just picked up this 32 Roadster last Friday for @shpcustoms father in NJ. I’m digging on this rear nerf bar we are planning on making a match for the front

I think you have Sam and I mixed up. Here is my '40 pickup nerf with a curved center bar (not welded yet). IMG_1269.JPG IMG_1208.JPG IMG_1278.JPG

  14. Prepare yourselves for the “nerf bars are on the sides, those are bumpers” guys.

I love nerf bars! This one (from the late ‘50s) is removable to attach the tow bar.

To me some look great and some look funny and goofy and distract from ride. Almost trial and error if that makes sense. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Try a set of Harley Davidson handle bars... upside down... some don't have the holes to retain the brake and clutch cables...they work best...
some have room for the front plate within the rise in the bars...

Nerf bars or kick rails are on a open wheel car for a really good reason.

IMG_1010.JPG This is what they are used for, keeping rear wheels from touching someone else rear wheel, if you don't have them you can really go for a ride.

I did these for a customer, didn't care for the design, but it was what he wanted. 41 Chev 1.jpg 41 Chev 4.jpg

Moriarity, off topic and I apologize, but is that by any chance a RaysonCraft loud boat tucked in the corner?

1489451395647-881763826.jpg My model a drag car in 1967 had a nerf bar on the back. That's me in the blue shirt and my dads 57 ford ranchero was our tow vehicle. We were all seniors in high school and didn't know how to spell! That is why aggravation is spelled wrong!!
