BWAHAHAHAHA! That's the truth, Ruth! I have been wracked with guilt because of what started out as a weekend bondo bash... "Yeah man, I'll bring it over Friday, we'll bash it out on Saturday, and then Sunday I'll come and get it..." Riiiiiiiiiiight.

Fast forward about 6 weeks and it's just about ready to go. I don't know what I would have done if he had made me keep my word and get it out of there when I said I would. :)

Just remember folks, that was the guy I bought it from, not me. He covered all the nice patina with something like a combination of black shoe polish and whale blubber. It is apparently impervious to laquer thinner. Due to availabilty issues, we were unable to try lasers. Next time, next time.

It's like painting in the best cave ever.

He means that I like door handles. Can't a guy like door handles?

And now, also courtesy of WOMC, I hear "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" in my head every time I see a piece of sand paper.

Awrite folks, next on the list is the Lincury. Look for updates coming soon to a Hokey *** Message Board near you. I am going to don my Red Baron getup once more tomorrow and pilot the mighty Heap back to its narrow, unheated roost where further mods will take place. Stay tuned, faithful readers. Same bat time, same bad channel.

I just found this picture and I thought I'd post it just for kicks. This is where I was doing the finish welding on this car trying to get it ready to go to Kevin's for paint. This is early December in below freezing weather.

    Last post for this thread:

The end of the StickySaga (TM)...Marc picked up his car and drove it home tonight, Red-Baron style again, sans windshield & other gl***. It was about 30 degrees out and he lives 15 minutes away. He said the full eye protection googles were much more comfortable this time. He encoutered one old couple who gave him strange looks, so he poked his arm out the windshield hole and waved. Old man smiled, old lady looked confused. ;)

He did a nice smokey burnout as he pulled away, and the bondo dust flying out of the car kept him shrouded in a dull haze under the street lights as has he drove down my street. Priceless.

Look for it at Autorama this year.

Marc, I had a lot of fun, you're a great friend to have. I look forward to working with you on the Lincury.

Well, The Heap was all ****oned up and the time had come to move it back to my place so the work can continue on the gl***. That meant that I needed taillights. However, there are no holes for taillights on this car anymore so DIRTYT fabricated some custom mounts in no time flat. Next, we had to solve the problem of the missing weatherseal on the trunk (I didn't want the lid to slam down and chip the paint). I quickly whittled some one-off bump stops using gaffer's tape. In the picture I detail the proper manner in which to make these.

    (more in a moment)

Here you can see the end result of the work on the taillights. This is an exact re-creation of the cl***ic "Harry Westergard Zip Tie Effect" that was used on high end customs in the late 40s. It is a testament to our style and craftsmanship.

I bundled up and headed for home, bringing a close to another chapter in the ongoing adventures of The Heap. Along the way, like an old episode of Fat Albert, I made new friends and even learned something about myself.
So stay tuned, loyal reader for the next installment. This one's going to be a double feature: "Stickylifter Gets Gl***," and "Return of the Attack of the Son of The Lincury." Coming soon to a Hokey *** Message Board near you.
