Hot Rods Still slowly getting there

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bruce Fischer, Jun 14, 2017.

  1. Got the 56 Chrysler finally all primed with quick sand primer. Boy that stuff is good and thick. A gallon set me back $95. Still looks like I am going to need some glazing putty. I am going to let it dry good. I also must have a front wheel cylinder problem {guess from sitting too long} I backed it up and then drove it up from the shop and the left front wheel kept locking up when I would hit the brakes. Bruce.

Try cracking the bleeder on that wheel. A buddy of mine had the same problem on his '49 and after bleeding it a couple of times, it was OK. ;)

Clear as in in see-thru, as in it's invisible, as invisible, as in we need pics.

Bruce, Slick Sand is a great fill primer, but be aware it's polyester, like bondo. At a minimum you want 2 good coats of epoxy to seal it before color. Excess solvent penetration will result if you don't. Epoxy is non-sanding for up to 72 hrs depending on the brand, overnight dry will lock it in good.

I had this baffle me once, long ago. Caliper hanging up, changed 'em both. Turned out to be a hose deteriorated inside, becoming a one-way valve.
    Keep plugging away Bruce.

  16. or you sanded way too much off

    the car disappeared

  17. Highlander. You are right as I was headed out of the shop I took off my mask and it smelled just like body filler. The oder was there this morning so I left the shop doors open. The car is drying under the car port now where its nice and hot. I did hit it with 2 good coats and still have the pits on the hood. Thanks Bruce.

Those twin cylinder Chrysler brakes are a ***** to get all 7 cylinders dry at once ! For reasons unknown to me, depending on the car, they seem to either constantly leak (but only one at a time) from various cylinders or don't give any trouble for as long as you own it. Maintenance done by previous owners, most likely ...
    Looking good, Bruce !

Putting it outside in direct sun will heat the metal and dry it quicker.
