Im still having trouble with my truck. Just to refresh everyone it's a stock 8BA single carb . I just put points and condencor in it ,timed it and took for a ride. Ran great. Got home shut it off and wouldnt start back up. Fuel filter looks almost empty but bowl on pump is full. Filter is between pump and carb and is new. Walked away scratching my head. Let cool down for a while. Went back about 30min. later filter was almost half full. Tried to start and fired write up. Can someone please explain this to me. Thanks, any help appreciated. jim

If its an ethanol blend of regular gas the alcohol in the gas mix it causes a older motor such as yours to vapor lock. Witch is when gas vapor prevents new fuel from entering the carburetor. Ethanol burns a wee bit hotter than strait gas and as the motor warms up so does the fuel in the carb witch causes more vapors and kills your truck.

Just a shot in the dark here: Is your gas tank vented?

I'm sure a lot of guys here can share more info than me on the subject...it's been years since I had VL.

However, various methods have been employed - routing fuel lines away from exhaust / heat, switching to an electric fuel pump (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't - the objective is to not use the mechanical fuel pump which, due to being attached to the engine, further heats the fuel), hanging clothespins from the fuel line, etc.

VL happens when the fuel essentially boils - creating an "air" bubble within the fuel line.
