I figured I'd post an update on my 1936 Dodge Truck that I tagged "Stinkfoot"...For the meaning behind the name do a search or ask my pal Nick32Vic...Well its been a while...I lost my job in December and I have really been trying to finish this truck up with all of my free time....Im hoping to have it ready and "pushable" into Autorama in a couple weeks.... I had the floors finished up last time I posted so Ill try and start from there.... This shows all the patches that were done on the body...Huge thanks to my friend Paul for helping everywhere he did and also for taking the time and teaching me some metal fab work skills....If nothing else I've learned a ton on this build.... Ok so next I needed a box.... Went and bought some mid 30's Ford Stake pocket pieces at Yesteryear Ford here in Michigan, Then bent a 45 and **** a bedside.... Mount it and look at it..... I am also doing a 57' Plymouth with my galfriend. That car has a huge trunk and has a ton of room to pack all kinds of stuff youd ever need and I kinda like that feature...so I tried my best to try and create a similar comfort with this one.... So I decided to make a "hidden" compartment.... and have the box as functional as can be.... It adds a lot of packing room which I think will be nice on road trips. Not quite as spacious as the 57' but it holds the necessities perfectly.... So now to the hidden part...I couldnt just have the trunk exposed, so I decided to come up with a hinged cover that acts as a tonneau cover/bed floor. I made an outer frame that surrounds my fuel tank..... My buddy Paul twisted my arm and I let him punch all these funky holes in it.... 255 of them..... So after I saw what that looked like, I had to have more...so onto the tailgate panel.....So we went back to the press and added 139 more louvers.... I think together they flow well.... I made some finish panels for the sides of the tank, so everything was on the same plane.... Next was on to the grille shell, headlight mounts, radiator, Steering, seat and so much more......all before tear down and body work.... But I dont have any pictures of that..... So this is it.... Right before dismantling..... Now my life consists of fill...sand...sand...sand....fill. I forgot how much I loved body work... So thats about 2 months in a nutshell....I have the frame painted now....and hopefully within the next week will have all my suspension pieces blasted, painted and installed... making it a roller agian. I still need to make a pitman arm for the cowl steering, and get all my steering links figured out..... Im somewhat back to having a day job now so its gonna be tight on making the deadline...but I already sent my registration in, so its gonna happen.....Hopefully you'll see me and Stinkfoot at Autorama.... If you do feel free to stop on by...unless Im sleeping.
+1 I will have to get Nick to enlighten me on this story. I wish I could afford to go to Detroit this year.
For sure ask him....it involves...stinkyness...the arch...24 hrs...keystone light...empty pockets....and good friendship... dude. who cares if you cant afford it. ive done a lot of things and been broke for long periods afterwards...but was happy i did it...and ive also missed out on a lot of things because i told myself i couldnt afford it... you should come....be creative and find a way. just get here....dont worry about a place to crash.
I'll try.... Whats the date? I can leave Thursday at 2:00ish. Need to be back by late Sunday night. My mom was thinkin of askin the travel agency for some low $$$ plane tickets.
I'm thinking, Jetpack or putting wings on my motorcycle. BMW's do have airplane engine's and a propeller for there logo!
Thanks... I actually spaced it out and 9 cases can fit back there... I think I may weld a bung on the bottom and caulk the seams inside so It can double as a cooler....
Ill try and get a side shot of everything when its back together...I dont have any pictures with it all together from the side.
Thats super cool! Why make lemons into lemonade, when, for a little more effort, you can make them into BEER STORAGE.......................................thats the essence of rodding right there!!!!!!
Oh Im gonna need some help.... I have a long list of stuff to do...and Im running out of time. I think our move in is on Wednesday so unless I need to stay up all night the day you get here....we should be able to just relax...then on Thursday night when Tom arrives I've set up a dance mix party..... haha
Did you say dancing? I'm gonna have to hone my skills. I hope Michigan can handle the TOM dance. haha. I can't believe I'm going.
Lookin good bro!!! I'm diggin the louvers! I didnt know you lost your job.....that ****s. But hey look at it this way....more time to work on the truck!!! You'll have no money but plenty of time! Ha ha. Later man
Awesome truck man. It's gonna be a handful to drive with that big MoPar in there. I think I see a raised deck RB?
This truck looks totally cool, Im not real fond of open wheeled trucks but this one looks pretty damn good. I think because its not totally on the ground. Looking really good, dig the louvers
Thanks Johnny... I will try and get a good picture. I cant get back to my pole barn right now due to the snow so I'm going to have to re***emble it in my attached garage...So space will be tight. It will be nice to get it back together though. I have parts ****tered throughout my house....my living room is starting to overflow!! I will miss you ever so dearly at Cobo. Thanks Aaron. Did you decide if you are bringing anything to Cobo? You and Mr. Buckle still have to come this way....Ill see you in a few weeks. Gus, Thanks. I wish I could take credit for making all of those, but my friend Paul at PMA Motorsports helped me with the patch panels on the cab.... I was going to buy them from Plymouth Doctor, but he wouldnt answer his phone....so we ended up making all of them. I'll see you at Cobo!!!
All I'm bringing to cobo is some slackers I haven't done **** with the wagon, too cold, and I've been to sick blah blah. We DO need to make it up your way, we say that all the time, maybe in march or april, once the thaw hits and the roads aren't salty I'll bring the wagon up!
Some more updates from the past couple weeks.... I got the frame all done and rolling again.... After 6 super fast days of body work I got the body in primer and back on the frame...... I still need to block it all out and get it in final final...but it will be good enough for now. Im still not sure if Im going to leave the tail panel in bare steel or paint it when I paint the body..... Today I was able to get the box all put together, my gas tank mounted, my seat mounted, doors hung, and a few other small things installed. Its starting to look like something. Hopefully tomorrow I can get my steering all done and my engine/trans set in.....
