I found a site that lists the stock '40 Ford colors and wondered what the difference was between Claret Maroon, Garnet Maroon, and Mandarin Maroon. Any photos that show the different colors?
These are a little larger,, HRP http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?manuf=Ford&year=1940&page=1&rows=50&size=large
The three colors are very similar and vary by mfg. Mandarin Maroon is the most common on the cars and looks the best in my mind. It is hard to tell the difference in photos. The one on the left is Garnet and the second one is Mandarin.
Here in the order you listed, Claret Maroon, Garnet Maroon, and Mandarin Maroon. Bill aka Tnomoldw Hey, I like the color of your car there, man. Whats that supposed to be? Sorta a cross between Piss Yellow and Puke Green, aint it? John: Well, you call that a paint job but its pretty ugly. Ill betcha you gotta sneak up on the pumps just to get a little air in your tires. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
if you are choosing a color for your car, buy a small amount of each of the colors and do a spray out. put the color out in different lighting. if you don't want to waste the paint use it for the first coat or an underside that will be hidden. manufacturers all seam to mix old colors a little different so it is good to do a spray out.
