stock 32 ford engine mounts question??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BobbedT, Feb 14, 2004.

  1. Can anyone tell me if a later flathead motor fits a 32 frame using the original engine mount holes in the front crossmember
I know that the original engines were pump in head, only i'm not sure if the engine mounts were the same.

I've been offered an original front crossmember and want to mount a later motor, without having to make separate motor mounts.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    thanks in advance

I've not done it myself, but I've seen 2 or 3 Deuces running around using stock front motor mounts and either 59AB or 8BA flatties. the motor mounts get rubbed by the fan belt in some cases, so the motor mounts get relieved a bit by the builder to keep from shredding the belt.

When I slid a 59-AB into my 34 frame, the holes weren't even close. I followed Mikey Bishop's advise in his book and made motor mount brackets from 2X3" tubing.
The earlier mount holes were too close together and would set a 59-AB way too low in the chassis.

You need a 32 motor mount that bolts to the front of the block. These are getting harder to come by. The later blocks have the four tapped holes you need though, right between the water pumps and timing cover.

HotrodVon's 32 is set up that way. Maybe he or TV (his Dad)
    could add some more info.

I fabbed my own mounts on my bucket. If a moron like me can do it without any strife, anyone can! BTW...my mounts for the 8ba are 7 inches tall to get the pan off the ground.

You need these. Cheaper to make mounts for the block mounted water pumps. I need a stock 32 crossmember if you want ot get rid of it. [IMG]

The stock Deuce mounts are reproduced. I think it's "We're only 32" or something like that. They no longer have a web site. They make lots of trick stuff primarily for 32 Fords but their trans adapters work for all flatheads. They have the parts to install a flatty with a late model top loader 4 spd into a stock deuce frame without cutting the frame. Someone will have their address and/or phone #

  10. thanks fellas, that helps a lot, i think i'll fab something up rather than butcher an original
