I have a nice set of `32 ford shocks, perches and links , and I also have a set of tube shocks and `49 Dodge shock towers ( same as F1 , but a tad shorter ) . I realy would like to use the original Ford parts ( Stock frame : Bolt on ) I have heated&bent the stock shock arms so the shocks wont bottom up , and the perches are nice . Problem is that too many people are telling me that those stock ford shocks aint worth crap ... What is your exsperience on this topic ? .. Klaz
It all depends on wheather you've got org's or repops? The orgs. can be rebuilt and work good if ya put the right oil in em. The repops don't come apart and they are a P>O>S>. The orgs. can be adjusted to differant loads. My son has them on his 32 roadster and they work fine. That said they are never going to be as good as tube shocks. To use them you must shave your tires and balance them on the car, if everything is right they will work ok.--TV
TV .. as far as I know , there is no1 in Norway or Sweden who offer tire-shaving services , but balancing on the car is no problem .. ( I have 5.50/16 Firestones from Coker up front ) .. Will it be a terrible ride ? Btw , I have never owned a car newer than a `81 Ford Fiesta , so I am not spoiled when it comes to comfortable rides ( Yea , Stock Ford shocks in FINE shape is what I have .. )
Yes, they work good, and can be rebuilt. The second thing, for a smooth ride, and just as important, it to oil your spring leafs and wrap/cover them to keep out the dirt. The modern way is teflon strips between the leaves, get them from wwwMacsautoparts.com, or B........?, forgot the name!! Burt's in Denver also carries them. The thing when reassembling the springs is; after tightening that bolt through the spring, after snugging it down, back it off one castellation on the nut before putting in the cotter key. That lets the leaves work freely without any binding.

I sure will take your word for it I used teflon between the spring-leaves on my `34 3W back in the early eighties , But the car I`m building now will be "hardcore-trad" , so oil/grease is my choice this time around ...
I have Houdaille shocks on my '40 Ford, and they work fine, although not as smooth as modern tube shocks. Use hydraulic jack oil if you need to add fluid. If you need to have them rebuilt, try Apple Hydraulics: http://www.applehydraulics.com/index.htm Hope this helps.
