Has any one used the a stock model A or Ford "F" series steering box in the stock frame location on a Model A frame with Hairpins?
With the stock "A" box or the "F" series box, the pitman arm is kept relatively close to the frame. Also the pitman arm hangs down past the bottom of the hair pin.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how the pitman arm could clear the hair pins. I've been considering heating and bending the pitman arm to clear through the hair pins or I'm thinking of cutting the arm and re-welding it.

Does anyone have any expereince working this situation out? Or any tips what angle(s) to bend the arm?

    Thanks for any Help

When bending pitman arms, all of which are forged steel, heat and bend then let cool naturally.

Split wishbones, hairpins, what's the difference other than appearance?

Hair pins / split bones; No difference really just different kinds of clearance issues... I understand the heating/cooling process to not change the temper.
For the other question... It's a dropped axle. But I don't see how changing the length of hair pin would change a clearance issue much. Ideally I want to keep the frame attachment point as close to the center line of the steering box as possible to minimize bump steer.

    Thanks for the input though!

ok thought moving hairpin foward, might allow you to put drag link outside hair pin...also shortening pitman arm might help...just a thought...
