Hot Rods Stock or not so stock...everyone's got an opinion

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Paul F, Jan 2, 2018.

  1. Well I'm no longer young, but I don't have any more opinions now than I did when I was young and age never stopped me from saying what I think.

I think you have a good starting place for a hot rod. Happy wrenching.

You can look at my posts to see what I did to my avatar to make it usable. A high compression head for the Model A engine and overdrive creates a true traditional hotrod that is usable. Of course you will need to update brakes. If you want a hotrod for the modern era, the Chevy V8 became the universal cure for the puny underpowered Ford cars. I have wanted to chop a top for almost 50 years but cant do it to my beautiful car. Maybe one of the rusty junkers I have but not my driver. 4"is about the limit on a chop. Any more is too radical to drive every day.

  3. Not sure I've ever noticed that as a "Problem". I've been over 100 MPH in my full fendered 29 RPU with a 347" Ford, with nothing non stock about the fenders or braces and never noticed it lifting. My Model A Tudor would cruise all day long at 75 with out any lift being noticed and my current 32 full fendered RPU is the same. Interesting :)

Build away. Ive always liked a stock appearing body with performance tucked away - in any era. Even a mild chop with stock interior still in place.

If you like the looks of the car, build the performance into it. If you want it to look different strip it down.

The parts will all resell to be used on other cars, or end up in a barn find stash in 10 years, youre not hurting anything, build as you please.

  6. Bill,
You should attend with a camera the Grand National Roadster Show later this month and the LA Roadster Show in June for ideas. FYI my AVATAR in powered by a 181 cubic inch Mercrusier (a big 4 cylinder Chevy II).
