It still has the old pie cut slicks. Good times had by all. Thanks to everyone who posts photos and information. I am a late viewer and am only up to page 70 in my attempt to catch up.

White "ducks" had been the basic racing/pit attire since the beginnings of organized racing, oval track especially, throughout the nation, not just the west coast. I seem to recall it's origins being with the AAA officials and organization, that was racing's top sanctioning body in the country wanted to present a clean image.

I used to wear white Levis and a white painters shirt to the track back when we were dirt tracking. It's a wonder my mom didn't shoot me. But I was cool is guess.

  7. Might have it's roots in hot locations like the lakes, Bonneville and Daytona. What ever happened to pith helmets ?

I used to go to Atlanta back in the sixties and early seventies and wear my white shirt with the patches, my white Levis and white sneakeres. I would wait near the garage area gate for someone like Buddy Baker to head in and I would fall in beside them and most of the time no one asked me where I was going. I would spend a good bit of the race in the pits or garage area. I didn't know at the time I would later be able to do that legally when I started taking photos for some of the racing papers.

I am looking for any photos of the Strip Teaser series of cars from Ellijay, GA. and any of a yellow '55 Chevy that ran around N. GA in the middle to late sixties called the "Hummingbird".

Here's something you might like, sorry for the quality but it was shot with an old box camera. This was made at Loyds Drag Strip near Blairsville, GA in 1965. The car was called the "GO Devil" and was driven by Oscar Parker who drove the Bad News '62 Ford earlier. Notice the trailer is being pulled by what looks like a '55 or '56 Chevy or something.

Falconred, great shot. I'm always looking for Bonner shots. Do you have any ex-Bonner Bad News shots? Also any David Harrell or Gene Wilson shots. T-bolts and LW Galaxies are great too!!!:D

'Bout shit when I saw this photo!

This car was restored here in the Twin Cities by Erik Lindberg about 10-15 years ago. I got tapped to do the lettering on the car, as you see in the pic. This was actually one of the first jobs I did, and I replicated the original 1966 lettering as well as I could. Everything is paint except for the "Liberty Motors" and the pentastar on the c-pillar, which are reflective vinyl applied by someone else. I have more pics of the car I would post if I could ever figure out how!
I also did a Roth-style airbrushed sweatshirt with the car on it, I'll post a pic of that too.
I've been wondering what happened to the car, looks f***ing Great!

Troublemaker, you have probably seen most of the stuff I have on Bonner, I do have a couple more of the Bad News car that I am trying to find.

Here are a couple of era photos from Atlanta Speed Shop Dragway:

Hubert Platt on the left and Randy Payne on the right. This is a Gadston, AL I think.

I kinda think that might be Piedmont Raceway, I've seen photos of "Corruptors Pup" racing at that track (see post above) back in the 60's, and I was told it was Piedmont in Ga.?, N.C.? can't remember which state.
    Cool Photo

Might be Lassiter Mountain in Birmingham. At Green Valley,Gadsden, the pits were on the left side of the track.

Cool to see so much knowledge shared in this thread. I already posted a pic in the MoPar 62-65 thread but maybe it is worth a shot here too. I would be curious to know about the Max Wedge engined Ram truck(s?) that San Diego disc jockey Dick Boynton raced for a few years. There is not much info about this/these, the best being the article in the February 1964 issue of Speed Mechanics. I have been under the impression that there was first a longbed truck that was originally a 318 auto while the second truck was originally a slant six 3-speed before the Max Wedge conversion was done. I am of course not 100% sure but this is my impression. Could be that the longbed evolved to the shortbed but it seems unlikely. I have talked to Dode Martin of the Dragmaster fame but he had no recollection at all of these. It has been awhile and Dragmaster was a big operation at the time scattered in several locations. Besides, according to "Dodge Book of Performance Cars" Jim Nelson of Dragmaster was involved with this project. He has not been in very good health so I did not ask Dode to bother him. Unfortunately Dick Boynton died tragically already in 1986 so no chance of asking him. Anyone here remember the Max Wedge truck(s)? Also, according to the aforementioned book the Ram truck was sold to Texas already by 1967 and raced there...even more interesting is the fact that there was another 1964 D100 with a Max Wedge racing there, a blue one. Any knowledge of that one? Sold new in san Antonio?

    Here is the original longbed truck;

Great information, thanks for posting it all. My friend Larry Davis, author of the "S/S" the book "Racing the family sedan" has a color shot of the Drag Truck in color in the pits at Dragway 42 in Ohio, 1963 I believe. I don't think it was included in the book though. I can't post it here without permission, unfortunately.
What else applicable to this thread is in that Speed Mechanics issue?

    Hi Joel,

Kudos to your friend regarding that book! One of my favorites definitely! There is a small b&w pic of the truck but no color photos. I'd love to see a color photo as the only one I remember seeing is the one on the Speed Mechanics cover. That issue has an article that covers the truck mods pretty well. I have my magazines pretty much packed up due to a pending move but I'll see if I can find it and post the whole thing. Maybe you could ask your friend if the pic can be shared?

    Thanks, Hans

I had quite a few pics of these but lost most as my old computer kicked the bucket...could you possibly email me these? Any specifics to those rumors?

There is a film on YouTube that briefly shows the longbed Ram Truck going down the dragstrip somewhere in the Midwest I think. Can't remember the title now.

    Thanks, Hans
