Many years ago, one of my fellow teachers had a restored 1960 Corvette stolen. He still has the****le, VIN, and very detailed records about the condition of the car. Is there anywhere online that he can look to see of anything ever turned up? Where else can he look? Thanks in advance.

What about doing Carfax where they look up the vin#?

    Or Autocheck from Edmunds?

    Just an idea.

Why don't you PM Rocky? I think he is unfortunately very familiar with how to do that.

You could PM me with the info. I have access to a database where I can run vehicle info.

    How many years ago?
There's a statute of limitations on a lot of things in a lot of places.
I'm not sure that even if it was found that it could be retrieved.

Actually if a report was filed they could at least get it back though no charges could be levied due to the statute of limitations.

It's a wonder there isn't a****le check and guarantee done by an Escrow and****le company on all cars these days, especially since (some of) the new ones cost as much as houses.

  10. Bugman,
Your friend might take out an ad in the NCRS(Nat'l Corvette Restorers' Society) magazine "The Restorer". Try ncrs.org.
Bad thing about late straight axle cars, the VIN tag is spot welded to the steering column tube---and they sometimes fall off [IMG]

  11. A guy in St Louis had a 59 that he took in after restoration to have the numbers checked for authenticity- the Higway patrol checked it against NCIC records. it was reported stolen a long time before as you stated your car was.....he lost the car.they confiscated the car and returned it to the owner who it was stolen from!totally restored and woth ten times the loss amount at the time!it was also sad because the guy it was stolen from years before was fully paid for the car by his insurance at the time of the theft!. Im trying to help my friend find his '69 that "disappeared" while at the shop. The mechanic "disappeared" too. All this info will definitely help.

  13. I had my 33 Chevy five window stolen in Austin, Texas in 1985 and to this day have never heard a word about it. I know in some states like Texas its pretty easy to get papers like****les and tags for cars - especially old cars. Good luck I hope you find the Vette!
