This is one of those threads that sucks to write. Yesterday, the local car community took a huge hit when we found out one of our local shops was broken into. The shop was actually a shop that I was in for 16 years so this is somewhat personal for me as well in that I am friends with the family and it was my old shop at one time. Anyway, someone broke into the shop and stole engines, tool boxes, a crew cab square body, etc. and a real nice 62 Impala that was owned by a local shop owner that actually just passed away right at a year ago. The car sat in his mechanic shop since I can remember and I guess they decided to move it down to my old shop once he passed away since it was being rented by his grandson. Here is the local article and the car to keep a lookout for. If I can get any more identifying info, I’ll post it later. It was stolen sometime in the last 7 days. Please send me a message if you see or hear anything about this car.

According to the article, that is a LOT of stuff to steal, this must have taken a long time to load and move, with multiple people to move multiple vehicles like that. Not a quick break in and grab shit type operation. Someone felt comfortable working in there for a while to move that much stuff out.

Yep, it would have likely taken quite a while but the shop is also kind of at the end of a neighborhood with a railroad track running behind it. It has always been a dark area and never felt that safe. When I was in there, there were more people around in other adjoining shops and we all looked out for others stuff. This is actually the barn door and walkthrough door of that old shop. Sid Drapal of Nostalgia Sid’s Dropped Axles was in the shop after me and this pic was getting ready for an open house.

I hope they find it. And all the other stuff. A lot of work to get all that, took a crew of thieves. Very sad.

I would guess that it was someone that was familiar with the building and what was inside! I hate thieves too!

There has been some information surface on this deal. Praying it works out and everything gets back to the owner. I will be sure to reply if things progress.

That whole "inside job" deal is more than speculation as many times after all the grease has floated to the top the truth eventually comes out.
It may not be an inside job directly, but many times there is some connection at a minimum.
Since an experience years ago with a dirtbag friend of my neighbor, I've been pretty dilligent about who gets in the door. The guy (neighbor) just lacked any sort of filter when it came to bringing people into his life, mostly the fringe at his various watering holes.
Hoping this family gets out of this without too much trauma.

Honestly. this whole deal has been a good reminder to me that I need be more cautious with my own stuff. I’m by nature somewhat trusting of people which can sadly backfire sometimes.

Try living on a main road, where everyone feels the need to "stop in". I usually stop folks at the gate, since the German Shepherds are gone now. I added cameras and an alarm to the shop.

  22. A lifetime sentence may be excessive..........
But 30 days in the electric chair seems just about right.

  23. Hanging would be more appropriate. What’s the difference stealing a car or stealing a horse?
Horse stealing was once a hanging offense in that part of the country.
    Glad the car was found.

I'm happy to see they recovered the most important item to the family and praying they can recover the rest of the things that were stolen and hold the thieves accountable for their crime!

I haven’t heard the details of who stole it yet, but will try to report back on that too when I hear something.

Good to see a "recovered" story on a stolen car thread.
