That's a real heart breaker. If the thieves were pros it's probably in a shipping container already, however professional car thieves don't usually rob 5 other storage bins. I think somebody has it stashed and they're figuring out what to do with it, and now the "heat is on" in the media. The hotter it gets, the more the thieves will worry, perhaps enough to dump it whole somewhere just to avoid getting caught. Crank up the heat in the community! I think stolen car posts should get "sticky" status here, or even their own sub-forum.
I do hope with all the media attention,Instagram, facebook,Hamb and television it will cause the thief/thieves sphincter muscles to tighten up and make a smart decision to drop the car off in a Wallmart parking lot. HRP
That happened before on here were it was too hot too handle and they dumped it, hope they get it back soon
I'll keep my eyes around Charleston but a car that unique would be hard to hide around here. Hope it's not in a container going overseas.
It sucks that the car is missing. I hope it gets returned to the guy. Though, this kind of struck me funny in the news report: "Jared decided to keep the car at a Grace Office Park storage units in Easley to keep it protected. But on New Year’s Day, something was wrong. When he came back to check on the car, the original lock had been broken and a new one was in its place. The family car was gone. “It made me sick to my stomach,” he recalled. “I pulled it up just enough to shine a light in there. I saw other stuff in there but the most important thing was gone.”" So the thieves broke in on New Years eve/day, cut the locks to five different lockers, and then replaced the locks when they were done so that nothing else was stolen? If the locker was broken into by thieves, why was there a new lock on the locker?
I just took Austinrod’s Poster and added the Pickens County Sheriffs Dept. contact information and I am printing out some old school handouts to take to the local Muscle Car Museum, and the car club meet at McD’s. I hope it can help.
It is kind of odd that a new lock was installed (which made me think of the TV show Storage Wars), but wouldn't that be a neat trick for the thieves to delay detection?
Danny, I'm sure they have thought of it, but what's the chances that it's still at the storage facility in a different storage unit? Does the storage facility have surveillance cameras? Maybe a paying customer just swapped units?
I do not know what the thinking is with putting on other locks it, but it is not the first time I have heard about that in a storage locker theft. I happened to some of my friends. Of course there are no security cameras at the lockers involved.
Theft of special interest cars is now a major problem, in all areas that I'm around at least. You hear about it all the time, seems like. Most law enforcement seems to take the attitude that "It's just a car, and if it's valuable, then it should have insurance on it." They fail to understand that deuce coupes. etc. aren't exactly easy to replace. And then add in the fact that the owner's GRANDFATHER built it and it's not "just a car". Around here, most of those that have been recovered have been found by the owner or one of their friends, not leo. Replacing the locks was most likely a move by the thieves to hide the break ins for as long as possible. Hopefully some clues will come from the security cameras. It's really a shame that you have to hide these cars instead of showing them off, but you can be sure that if these bastards find out where you keep a nice hot rod, they'll be scheming on how to steal it. And self storage places are often magnets for these thieves. Mine are stored under double locks, steel barred doors and windows with a very sophisticated alarm system that uses motion detector so sensitive that a mouse running about will trigger the alarm, which then is transmitted via dedicated cell phone to the monitoring service so that cutting a phone line doesn't affect it. And I still get nervous about it.
Whenever these stolen car posts are put up, I wish the mods would remove all subsequent posts that are of no help in recovering the car. Page after page of the same, regurgitated threats of genital mutilation and hand amputations along with the standard, "I hate thieves". Really?!?!? Who loves thieves??? C'mon mods, clean up these threads so, maybe, people can work together to get the car back. Delete this post as well
A friend of mine had everything he had stolen when he was in process of moving and put things in storage. He had all kinds of flathead stuff, including distributor machines, etc and it was all gone. He had items in a storage facility with no gates, no cameras. I had to put some things in storage during a move. I found a facility that was gated, that had cameras everywhere, and that required a unique passcode in order to enter facility. It was also only open during certain hours of the day. It also had managers who lived on site. Everything one can do to slow down thieves is helpful.
That one thing that the " I hate thieves " posts do is to bring it back to the top. Never thought of that ? It serves a purpose , like it or not . My dad's got his eyes peeled in north Georgia .
OK he checked NYD and found it missing...The news write up said nothing as to how long it could have been gone...I know, gone is gone but a time frame may link to some one seeing something..More to it than just the cars sentimental value [yes, unmeasureable] I think..
The facilities where they stay on top of everything are the best. Ones that get lax, don't keep up with the taping, hire anyone that can fog a mirror and those where anyone can walk in are the worst. Not to mention the ones that pay minimum wage and the help sleeps most of the time... or looks the other way for a few $$.
They discovered the theft New Years Day,no mention of the last time the owner was at the facility, HRP
The rear fenders are molded to quarters, plus unique trim on front of rear fenders. Keep that in mind the next time you find a 32 too good to be true. Good luck
I recently found my locks cut off and replaced in a storage unit that I have for some household items. Thankfully, nothing was taken as the place I use marks their locks and checks them daily. I opened apolice report and the cop said it is routine for thieves to replace the locks. Replacing the locks makes it appear that nothing is wrong at a glance - delaying anyone noticing. They also replace the locks in preparation for coming back in multiple trips without detection.
Be checking in southern NH . The mistake is steeling from hot rodders because they have a code and tight bond. If any one hears or sees this car you will get word. Their mistake is to take a car that stands out.The more heat you generate they will drop it like a hot potato. My friend had 2 motorcycles stolen from his garage Early Harley and a 28 Henderson. I told him that who ever stole the Henderson would get caught because there RARE About two weeks go by a we get a tip and recovered the bike the guy bought it from the thief and there was a lot of heat and he agreed to take the reward money and eat what ever he paid for it.Not to be implicated. Wasnt any resistance but we were carrying just in case. The thief got caught went to jail. Died in jail 3 months later. LOCAL SCUM BAG. Word is the other bike got fenced up in Maine.
It's been pretty well publicized but I'd get word out to every car club in a 200 mile radius and maybe more than that. I'd be looking for word of that guy who all the sudden came up with a chopped coupe body who couldn't afford a chopped coupe body in any shape a month ago. That includes shops that all the sudden have made "great progress" on a chopped coupe that aren't known for making great progress on much of anything.
It was there early this morning, a friend that lives in Easley was talking to me about it while he was surfing....I dont know, guess they took it down. I just hope it turns up before it gets hacked up .
If the guy could get the door up enough to look under it, he can look into other units also. Maybe use one of those inspection camera deals. It might still be on the property.
I had a lot of collectibles and old speed equipment stolen from a storage facility I rented while I moved. The thieves replaced the lock as others have noted. It was a fenced, locked facility. I found out a lot of thieves rent facilities to get access and watch the other units. I would never use a storage facility again.
