Not a good thing, but hope they recover the truck and trailer.

  3. This crap needs to stop, I can only imagine the feeling of walking out to your truck and it's gone, I really hope they find it intact.

The only plus to this story is his "muscle car" was in the show and not the truck.
the car reported as a MC appears to be a model A roadster.

Every time I read about a truck & trailer being stolen I ask myself did the owner have any type of anti thief device, I know there are all types available, alarms both silent and audible, brake locks and tracking devices.

It's a shame that a man has to think about having his truck, trailer and possibly his hot rod or custom stolen but sadly that's the world we live in.

  5. This bullshit seems to happen at almost every big time show anymore. Feel so bad for the owner, love his Model A Roadster. So very happy that it wasn't inside the trailer at the time it was stolen.

A tip to track vehicles, put 2 Apple Air Tags hidden in separate areas of your vehicle/hotrod to attempt to track the thiefs. If you put only one in there, the thief may find it and dispose of it, with 2 of them......they might find the one and not think about searching for a second.

That sucks. That roadster was one of just a few worth looking at upstairs. Hope they get their rig back.

I went to go to work one morning and my Mustang was up on blocks in my driveway. I always do good on insurance claims but I was a little insulted about them not taking the whole car.

Detroit strikes again. A restaurantuer that I know used to own Layfeyette Market downtown, went to a nice restaurant with his wife one night. Valet walks up, takes his car away, turned out he wasn't a valet at all, lol. My buddy told me "the worst part was I tipped the prick twenty bucks to steal my car..."

Hopefully this guy gets his rig back.

None of this is a laughing matter....but....when I read your post and got to the last sentence..."hope they find it", my senile brain immediately thought...."what happens when they do (find the switch), does the vehicle explode?" That idea made me laugh, until I realized my misinterpretation. carry on. ;)

I do know the anxiety of leaving a rig outside at a motel when traveling. So far, no loss, but it can happen anywhere. :(

Delivered a car to Salt Lake City. Jacked knifed the trailer into the hotel wall to keep it safe. Next morning heading home on the freeway and my trailer was dragging behind me. The tried the old Pull, Plug and Play. Foiled again!!! Put the receiver hitch back in with a locking pin.

Run the out put coil wire to the middle of the front seat just below the seat cover....!!

  20. I pull the fuel pump relay or the ECM fuse if I park at hotels or if the place feels sketchy.

…and every morning I forget and wonder for a half second why it won’t start.

Had a buddy who always pulled the rotor out of his hotrod and stuck it in his pocket when the car was going to be parked out of sight when we were gone somewhere back in the 70's.
The big problem with tow rigs and trailers at shows is that they are usually parked in a back lot that isn't secure anyhow and if there is security around, they are only concerned with the facilities and not people's property.

As far as disabling a vehicle, one of these manual tank selector switches with the handle under the seat fouled me up for a day and a half before I got under the truck and went the full length of the fuel line to see what the issue is. They haven't been in use on most rigs for 40 years but you still find them on rigs with auxillary tanks. Put a plug in the auxillary tank side, and then when you park reach under the seat and turn the valve to off or aux and that shuts the fuel off. Run the carb out of gas and all the hot wiring in the world won't start it unless they figure it out.

Maybe just bag the tow rig so it lays frame and empty the air tanks and stick the main air system fuse in your pocket. I'm not any fan of the goofy laying frame BS but if it is sitting flat on the ground in the parking lot the sticky finger brigade isn't going to want to bother with it.

  22. There are a number of threads and posts on this forum about those GPS tracker devices that can be hidden somewhere in your vehicle or trailer so you can track it if needed on your computer or smartphone.
Well, I just watched a video earlier today telling how the thieves are hiding those on your vehicle or trailer themselves to locate it later if the circumstances aren't good for them when they first spot you. They can observe folks arriving and setting up at a show while they pick and choose their victim.

You should also take the handle off of the valve and carry it with you.

I pull my relays on my tow rig, and switch my coil lead with a spark plug lead when I park my car. Pisses me off every time I try to start it later, but after 3 attempts to steal it out of my driveway, I still have it.

Here is why this stuff happens.......

About a month ago two neer-do-wells stole a local mans trailer with his racecar from his driveway. He chased them and they crashed the STOLEN truck they were driving. When the fellow got out of his truck at the crash site, they shot him and he died.
The Louisville police were able to apprehend the two men about a month later. The men were 38 and 22 years old.
They are currently charged with murder as well as other theft related charges. Here is what the local newspaper published about the older guy. Remember he was already a convicted felon when the below happened.

On July 2, 2021 he was convicted of receiving stolen property. He was given a 2 YEAR SENTENCE which was probated for 5 years.
In Sept 2021 he was convicted again in Louisville for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property, obscuring the identity of a machine, and tampering with physical evidence. His 5 year sentence was probated for 5 years.
Now he is on trial for a murder committed while he was on probation instead of in jail where he should have been.

I guess he must have had a tough childhood and deserves another chance, not like the privileged childhoods we all had..........
