The "tile" locating device only sends bluetooth signal 100 ft, so a phone with the app would have to be 100 ft or less from the stolen vehicle that has the tile attached.
That "tile" has a very short reach as Arkiehotrods said. with so many "outdated" smart phones with built in GPS a guy could hide and "outdated" one in his rig and add a hidden axillary battery to keep it powered up for an extended length of time. A few extra bucks a month on your cell bill if that and done. Since there has been no sign of the car surfacing since it was stolen there is a good chance that it was a "targeted" theft of the Willys rather than some guy stealing the whole rig for the trailer as usually is the reason for the theft. Makes one wonder if we have seen it show up as a completely different rig and as one with no known history behind it.
