Got one on my 39 Dodge tudor. It gets the fire going in the Super Red Ram. I love the looks I get when a person sees me start the car with my foot.
Took mine out and put a push ****on on the dash next to the key switch. In the Studebaker trucks, the clutch pedal engages the floor starter. I didn't want to be engaging the starter when just trying to shift gears in the truck and seemed like it might be a little tricky to be dealing with on hills, etc. So I put the dash ****on in when I first got the truck and redid all the old wiring. Works well for me, and personally never have missed the floor ****on.
I've got one in the '41. Works fine. It was easy to fit it round the T5 conversion by just using an adaptor plate and keeping the stock bell-housing. that way I kept the stock pedal ***embly too.
Foot starter in my avatar Willys and my 50 Chevy truck. On GM trucks and some Willys Jeeps the foot starter closes the hi current starter switch and shifts the drive into the flywheel.Other Willys Jeeps use a Bendix starter drive and the starter pedal is just a switch. Do the early Fords have a Bendix drive with an electric foot switch? And the Mopars?
Don't have one in my '40 Ford, but I remember driving a 50-something Nash was started by pushing the clutch pedal all the way to the floor.
Still have original 1933 Chevrolet "Starterator" that is controlled by accelerator pedal. No visible starter pedal on floor. It might slow down car thieves.
it's convenient as all hell, and with some of them you feel the car coming to life, the starter gear meshing with the flywheel and the pistons chugging up and down and the Initial cough to life... it brings ya a bit closer to your ride.
Yup! Sounds very similar to the sequence in my coupe. Gas, on. Choke, out. Advance lever, up. Key, on. STOMP! Pretty fun ****.
Need help starting my truck. I got a 47 dodge truck years ago and put it in storage. It has a starter pedal above the accelerator. I remember the guy told me I had to do something possibly w the shifter to start it or I’m losing my mind and he didn’t. I thought I’d ask you experts. How do I start this thing. I’ve depressed the clutch and starter while in neural and nothing.
Probably you have to put the shifter in neutral, so it won't move when it starts? Does it have a fresh battery?
Had a '46 and a '52 Stude PU, one had the clutch pedal activated starter, maybe both, can't remember. It took a significant incremental pedal force to depress the starter ****on, so I never had occasion to inadvertantly engage the starter.
On mine, the plunger through the firewall was worn out so it would get bound up and ****ed when you stomped on it. The starter would stay engaged and a lot of nasty grinding would happen. Switched out to a later solenoid starter and what an improvement! Sent from my SM-T350 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
My '36 Dodge pickup has one. I have to say it doesn't work very well, even after a fresh starter! But it does work. Dave
