test drive almost killed me i was sitting in seat on a jack stand and jack stand shot out good thing i had my helmet on
Well you are on your way and a good start it is. The way you and your buddy collect parts you should have this ride ready for a road test by the first of the year. I use the flash on the camera all the time (day or night) and have had good luck, you may being doing this already. Just a suggestion. Maybe one of these days we can talk you into a road trip to race one of our ANRA Nostalgia Races at the "Patch" Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield. Good building.
thanks {old28} we have nostalgia race this weekend .my boy and i are going to take my 30 chevy ... me and my buddy will have the car at one of the anra races soon .. havent been to famoso drag strip since around 1994. my buddy had a junior fuel car we ran ...
picked up rear end 9" ford out of car dont know what gears are will find out soon. picked up the 1 1/2 for the cage going to my buddys house to bend it up. waiting for u.p.s to show up with the front spring and other odds and ends .... still needs some chevy car bolt pattern front wheels ....
Your moving along real nice, watch those test rides! If that 30 Chevy will pass tech you can bring both cars, they both would run in the open wheel class with ANRA. The enclosed picture is of our N/E-1 dragster we ran CA-OR-AZ 1990-95. Picture is of my wife on the top end at Famoso.
hey mike it's a blast building this thing thanks for bringing me onboard. glad my test ride went way smoother than yours LOL
Tom, when you get the big motor in yours you'll have to hang the NE-1 chute on it. That's a great pic of your wife at Famoso. I'll be watching for you & the SDRA car at the March Meet on Bangshift.com.
Mike, you and blue pig are going to have a great time building the SDRA ride this Fall & Winter. We will be looking for you at one of our ANRA races in 2013. Go to their Web site to see 2013 schedule. Also there are two nostalgia races at Barona Raceway (2013 schedule not out yet) that "old6rodder" went to this year that were a lot of fun and lots of runs, maybe you might be able to take them in, lot less miles from your end. I am going to try running both if possible. I thought that AZ had a helmit law "NO TEST RIDES WITHOUT A BUCKET". Your buddy is real luck'y that seat stayed in place.
Well, I apologize. I thought I was posting on Tom's thread. Looks like you have lots of good parts for the "Stone Broke" car. Good luck with the build.
Looks like you have an old "smooth back" 9" housing. Sell that one to some roadster guy, buy a rear end that don't take as much HP to turn such as a mopar 8 3/4" unit. Good luck on your build, looks like your off to a good start...bowtie40
Mike,Glad to see your makin progress can't wait to see it out at the track.Way things have been going lately we might be able to have some inline races at Speedworld next year besides the Spring race.
sorry for not updating in sometime but full time job and family in town its been a while since we worked on it ... i can tell we got most of the cage tacked together and motor is mounted ... steering box mounted .... will be updating with pics soon and 300racr we be testing and tuning very soon
Mike, I know what you mean about work & family first, pay back is great in the long run. For us retired guys like myself, we have all the time but run a little tight on the funds now and then. Sounds like you have have got a bunch of stuff done on the car, can't what to see pictures. If you guys have a race that these cars can run each other at Speed World, let me know. Like the track and people running it. My wife Dixie made her best pass with or N/E-1 dragster at that track 7.01 @199mph. I would tow down if the schedule works.
car has been coming together little slow ... we got most the front end done shocks ,spring, steering arm .... got rear end mounted ... motor is mounted trans mounted started cage got most of it tacked in place need to start upper two main bars over drivers head then start welding it out steering box"vw" is mounted and ready to build drag link and pit arm .... so with that said we are still trucking on....how ever we are also doing so other toys my buddy is building his son a 1947 ford truck and im building a 1929 dodge bros roadster for my son.. now they are only 13 yr old boys and still have alot of time to go before they start to drive but they are into cars and they have been busting are balls for some time to help them out so we been working on theres for the last two three weeks will post some pics of them later
Great you guys are working on family hot rod projects and hope the boys are helping with the project, that what keeps the sport going. I like how the fit is in the drivers area, what is the length from firewall tube to back seat tube? How wide between side tubes inside? Looks like good leg room.
well not much of a update .... but got some bad news to report .... found out that firebird raceway in chandler az will be closing its doors in the next 6 mnths or so also found out today that the state of arizona is pulling there lease from speedworld raceway in wittman az so that leaves us no place close to race .... myself and my buddy have little boys that race jr dragsters with no place close to race will be hard to push on with the new car ..... we are writing letters and praying for the best but only time will tell now .......
Not another one gone!!!!! We lost ours a long time ago ('76) but still have a few that are not far to drive to.... 1 to 2 hours depending on which one we go to. Ever wonder if the current popularity of building street/strip gassers & hot rods has to do with the lack of a place to drag race legally in many cities nowadays ???? Is it "back to the streets" only to drive to car cruises & shows and sitting there ALL day with no noise or smells except from the D.J. playing "oldies" & barbeques cooking hamburgers & hot dogs. What a SAD commentary!!!!! Hope things change .... but it doesn't sound good.
we lost manzanita speedway few years back ... now firebird raceway and just today the news is out speedworld is getting taken over by the state of good old az ..... i grow up racing there lots of good people and good times .... sad sad news ..... done some thinking tonight with my buddy and we are going to push on with the dragster if we have to make a test pass down my street before going outa state then fine by me ...
Mike, that is some crappy news. What's the reason for the closing, I know speedworld has been a on/off situation for last few years, but what is going on at Firebird, NHRA pull the plug? Well for the near future keep working on the boys street ride project, Remember "Family First". Speedworld sounds like LA County Raceway, Palmdale, CA. The County pulled the lease and 6 months later the track was bulldozed and gone. Hope something happens to save one or both tracks.
Tom, The Indians have decided not to renew the lease to Charlie Allen, There are all sorts of rumors and hearsay about what will happen to Firebird.Speedworld is fighting to keep the track open until May so thet we could finish the spring half of the racing season.
Mike -- that is good news in a bad situation to hear that you will continue with the dragster build. Sure hope we can meet up sometime this year to run two SDRA cars side by side. Hope something can be worked out at Speedworld so the boys can continue to run their Jr dragsters. Check out OLD6rodder post on some nostalgia drag race dates in southern CA for 2013. Can not make fist race at Barona as it is the same weekend as the ANRA Opener in Bakersfield, but should be able to make second one. Also the Four Ever Four race in Irwindale (no date yet). Rich -- Sounds like a money problem between Charlie and the tribe. Always about money in these lease deals. Keep use informend on the situation at both tracks.
Also would like to mention that another possibility might be the Reunion at Tuscon. They had such a great turnout last year that I had heard they were going to do it again this year.If not maybe a race persay we could have a gathering? They had 1/8th mile flag starts sessions aswell as hot car sessions and time runs using the tree.I think it is sometime around the first of May.I will check to make sure and post the date.
Do they still do the "Street Drags" in Kingman? We just happened upon them several years back and it looked like a fun meet.
The Street Drags have moved to Havasu, .I just talked to BigB the other nite and they have some good news coming shortly. The Havasu Street Drags will be the first weekend in November.
Ok folks I have an update for Speedworld anyways, all parties involved have come to somewhat of an agreement on the closure of Speedworld. It is my understanding we have an approxomate timeline that will keep us open till summer.I am being told that though not set in stone it looks as though we will be able to get thru the spring racing season and with that our Flathead/Inliner race during the Southwest Nostalgia drags is a GO!!!on March 16th.if anything changes I will let you all knowASAP. Mike, get that toy finished up!! may try to get some people together for Tucson's reunion aswell. Tom, Hope you guys can make it over, and bring a few others with ya !!
