You''d think after 81 years I'd learn not to trust people. Bought this 32 project roadster off a HAMB ad earlier this year. I thought it was a good buy and the buyer emphasized it included a numbers matching 32 ***le. I paid cash ($15K) and brought everything back to Nebraska. To date the HAMB seller hasn't produced the ***le or the build sheet promised for the rebuilt 36 rear end. I've gathered lost of parts and was looking forward to spending my winter in the shop getting the roadster ready for the next guy. My neighbor is a semi retired lawyer and I was asking him if I had any recourse. His main advise was to put no more money or time into the project. He said that at any time the seller could surface with the ***le in his name and a court order and claim ownership, even though I have a signed bill of sale. Nebraska is a state that tends to side with the seller. The ***le holder would simply produce the ***le and have local law impound the car and hold it until he picked it up and took it back to Wisconsin. To be continued.

I really hate hearing stories like this. I hope it works out for you. Are there vin numbers on the frame or cowl to prove it’s his car if he were to show up with the ***le? I forget where the 32 is. I’m more versed in the model As.

  3. Sorry to hear.

Some people have a way of keeping this stuff from being the fun it's supposed to be.

Good luck. I hope it works out for you.

Is the HAMB seller still active on the board?

    Sorry to hear that.

Why did you leave without a ***le?

I bought a slightly OT Corvette with a bill of sale in 1993. Was promised a ***le. One of the previous owners owed money on it like 10 years earlier. Had to do an Artisans Lein ***le with ads in the paper and a sale. Took like 6 months. Never again. If I don't get a ***le up front, I don't pay like it has one (it's a parts car).

Been doing this hot rod thing for almost 60 years, never been screwed before. (maybe I've been lucky) When we did the deal he said the ***le was in transit and he would send it to me ASAP. He had an overnight shipping envelope ready with my shipping address on the label. I even handed him an extra $50 to expedite the deal. I still trust people to keep their word. I'll probably die that way although dealing with this guy is testing my faith in my fellow man.

Yes he is still an active seller on the HAMB having a couple of items listed currently.

Gotta say some of the systems you guys have over there seem to be ripe for this sort of thing.

Over here, we can go online with the buyer stood next to us and sign over the registration do***ent digitally there and then, down to the minute, therefore nobody leaves unsure of ownership and the seller is covered if the buyer decides to drive the vehicle home like an **** and picks up any tickets on the way. Include a bill of sale and you're pretty bulletproof

That said............the idea of driving off without that ***le in my hand seems mad, especially after just handing over 15k for something that can 'legally' be just taken back at any point.

Have you actually seen a physical ***le ?
You can always have the DMV do a ***le search and see if you can get a status. Dependent on that result, you can apply for a duplicate/new ***le.

The cl***ified ad for the roadster is still up, and it says “clear ***le” right in the ad. Basically the guy committed fraud. Gary, show the ad to your neighbor the lawyer and see what he says then.

SDS: No, only a verbal commitment, his word. My local DMV did a ***le search and there is an existing ***le. Guys, many of you don't know or understand me. I was successful in the hot rod ch***is business for over 40+ years because I kept my word. My customers sent me a 50% down payment for a ch***is which most of the time was $5-6K or more.+ They'd never met me but they still had faith I'd do as promised which I did. I put that same trust in Ryan Cross. PT Barnum Once said (THERE"S A ****ER BORN EVERY MINUTE) Sometimes I resemble that quote.

    Why build on hold ?
I would think with your connections
    Another frame no Issue .
The frame you have that you did not receive the ***le , I would have it bare sitting in corner , if some one came with a ***le calming ownership ***le is only for frame & Realy the driver side rail
Horn to firewall 2 ft .

I would source another frame .

I would also on the original
    take a chance!
    Maybe Rayan never registered ?
File missing, lost , abandoned ***le
Here I think $50 do paper work , send the certified paper to address that DMV will provide which would be the last time it Who & was registered address, after 3 attempts to deliver &" No One sighs"
for It will come back to you , save envelope, fill out second paper work
    30 days later ***le .

Again if some one shows up with a ***le
Ownership "Its just for the Frame "
    Nothing else ..

We're working between Nebraska and Wisconsin. Easy on paper not so easy in person. You make it sound so easy but here it's not. Another frame? Not in the budget. Gotta work with what I have. Maybe I'll just say **** it and put it in storage for may kids to deal with in when I'm gone?

Could you put a lien against it? Something like the tow truck guys do for "storage". Can't find the original guy or he won't pay and you get ownership.

Yes , but need to know who the last person ***le is register to , that the Abandon ,lost ***le , $50 fee ***le ownership search,
and the certified registered letter you can add option For storage or surrender ***le.. if the certified envelope is sign for & opened ...
If not open & returned off to DMV for ***le in your Name

If DMV has No last register Owner usually after 25 years not on file,
you can start the process Abandon , Here You post in 3 public places No claim of ownership I think 30 days ,
Back to the D.M.V ***le issued in your name

Well your state little different & L-E is the
    only one to determine abandon,
I thinking If you believe that Rayan was the owner Send a Notarize certified letter to Rayan worded in a way you pick up frame with Rayan's permission to move from Rayan's property state to Nebraska & you have hade in your possession & on your property for @ least 2 months ? & now you are charging Storage in letter you are seeking X amount of $$ & immediate removal by
certain date time from your property The fame if not you request ***le or forfeit ownership to you .

If Rayan does Not sign for certified letter & its return to you Un open &
You then contact L-E that I would think would start the abandon
    Vehicle process ..

You mentioned you have a lawyer friend, talk to the lawyer about this scenario ,

If not there are 47 other

Can your NE DMV office determine who's name is on the WI (?) ***le? Is it the seller?

Gary that really stinks just s**** the original frame that came with it and just use all the other bits and body. Use a aftermarket frame and hear a guy in your area cornhuskers has been building frames for 20 plus years use one of his frames. I heard they are fantastic!

I couldn't hit the like ****on on that post. Sorry to hear about this but you need to call him out and let the boys ban him before he burns someone else on here. This is horrid, 15k is a lot of money for anyone to lose and enough to make someone commit fraud unfortunately. Ban him!

HRP: Been conversing with Ryan currently on hold. John: I am the guy in my area but no longer doing frames. Billy That move has been considered but then the chance for the ***le evaporates. We'll see how it shakes out?
